A speeding driver who held a shameless online fundraiser for himself after killing a Los Angeles cop and a Whole Foods worker in a fiery highway wreck has been hit with murder charges over the horrific crash.

Mario Bickham, 36, of Los Angeles was charged with two counts of second-degree murder Monday for the killing of LAPD Sgt. Shiou Deng and Jesus Garcia, 34, in the June 23, 2025 collision on the busy 405 Freeway.

...

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said Bickham was driving his Nissan sedan at more than 112 miles per hour when he slammed into Deng, who had just exited his cruiser to help Garcia, a Whole Foods worker who had finished his shift and was stopped near the Getty Center.

Mario Bickham was arrested Monday on murder charges over a speeding crash that killed two.

Sergeant Shiou Deng, an Asian man, wearing a dark blue police uniform with a tie, name tag, badge, and sergeant stripes on his sleeve, poses in a portrait against a blue background.

Garcia, whose vehicle had just been struck by another car before the fatal 2 a.m. collision, was pronounced dead at the scene. Deng, 53, a 26-year LAPD veteran, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital soon after.

...

Bickham, who works at the Department of Homeland Security according to his Facebook profile, often posted photos of his muscles and tattoos on social media and displayed a fondness for nightlife and Egyptian iconography.

... Bickham had been routinely busted for speeding over the past 15 years and had been cited twice for speeding in excess of 100 miles per hour, the DA said, including once in the month before the crash when he was ticketed for going over 105 miles per hour.

I don't know why he was charged a year later. In California and some other states, they can charge for murder when racing on residential streets, driving drunk the wrong way on an interstate, etc. It probably can sometimes be pled down or a jury can convict of a lesser charge for manslaughter. Not sure they will that since he killed a police sargeant. The victims were Chinese and Hispanic. The perp is what you would expect. He got about $2K with a GoFundMe to help him with his injuries. Not sure why he wasn't arrested for failing to appear in court for a citation a month earlier for driving over 100.Perp works for Department of Homeland Security.

It took a year to charge this DHS guy with murder?

We rightly criticize Britain for its two-tiered justice system.
But we’ve sure got it here, too.

There are Americans who think killing people you think are evil is justified and defensible. Just look at the many donors to the defense of the murderer Luigi Mangione and Karmelo Anthony.

I’ll happily contribute to a fundraiser for the extermination of this POS.
