France blames US for deadly heatwave
The Telegraph ^ | June 28, 2026 | Vivian Song

A Paris official has said she holds the US partially responsible for the record-breaking heatwave in France. The comments were made as part of a scathing rebuke to American tourists, immigrants and expats who have been criticising France for its lack of air conditioning across the country.

Over the past week, the transatlantic discourse online has also been heating up, with some Americans – many living in desert and tropical climes in the southern US – mocking the French and Western Europeans for not being able to withstand temperatures to which they are accustomed to every year.

“Dear American journalists and social media ‘influencers’: for days, some of you have been criticising and making fun of Paris because the city does not have A/C in every room...OMG, this is so rich!” wrote Audrey Pulvar, deputy mayor of Paris for international relations, on social media.

“As the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the world, you bear a significant amount of responsibility for global warming and the consequences we, in France, are experiencing. Your cities, which are 90 per cent air conditioned, are not unrelated to this.”

After listing Paris’s green initiatives, Ms Pulvar ended her posts by criticising the US for what she described as the country’s disdain for the planet. “So please, enough with the lecture. Just start doing your part. Best regards.”

Unlike the US, where air conditioning is common, in France only one in four households has air conditioning. Historically, the French have been sceptical about air conditioning: an Ipsos survey published earlier this month found that 78 per cent of French people believe that it’s bad for the environment and one in six respondents said they would rather suffer for the sake of the planet.

“Just start doing your part”

Just start.

The fish eye started from the clerks at Whole Foods, the Tesla-pretend fossil fuels free cars- the Nazi recycling, the hating of Trump. None of it will ever be good enough.

You triple down on that and the French will still hate the US. To the point of insanity - insanely blaming us for their heat wave.

Yes, that would be in the homes of your ruling elites.

They are stupidly blaming others for their own decisions. My A/C (in Alabama) is not to blame for their lack of A/C nor their lack of electricity. Nor is my solar panels saving the planet. All of that is hogwash!

Been a while, so here's the FR reminder that the average temperature rises and falls along at least 3 cycles that work simultaneously (Milankovitch cycles).

The rises and falls over the past 2 and a half billion or so years:

The rises and falls over the past half a million or so years (think of the graph below as an expansion in the right portion of the above graph):

The rises and falls over the past ten thousand or so years (the below graph again expands on the right portion of the above graph):

My personal favorite is the last one because it shows centuries long warming and cooling during the Bible years and since. Basically, when there is written language to record history and how people handled real climate change without political propaganda.

Will you look at that. The French have found a way to surrender to absurdity.

If you rank countries on a per capita basis, the USA doesn’t even make the top 10.

It’s Palau, Falklands, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Brunei, UAE, Mongolia, Trinidad, Oman, New Caledonia, Saudi, Australia, Gibraltar, Canada, Russia, USA

That graph has distinct high and low areas.

But during the Bible years, it looks like only +/- 1 Deg. C. or about +/- 2 Deg F.

OK, so that small amount makes Warm Periods and Ice Ages. I would not have thought that.

Almost. Think 2C swings. It's almost 16C at the red tip after the 3 for 3,000 years ago, though I've read it topped out around 11th century BC about when the Jews demanded Samuel anoint them a king -- the start of the Era of Kings is the start of the Dark Age Cooling period). Then below 14C the Dark Age Cooling period bottoms out and becomes the Roman Warm Period, during the silent years between the OT and NT. So more like 2 degrees C instead of 1 degree C swings.

But yeah, that little bit on average makes a world of difference. Use AI to look up number of droughts and famines before Moses (cooling period), during the Era of Judges (Minoan Warming Period), and during the Era of Kings (Greek Dark Age Cooling Period). You'll see that the Greek Dark Age Cooling Period had way more famines and droughts. The same for the Dark Age (AD 300 - 900) and Little Ice Age (roughly AD 1300 to 1800s) more than the Medieval Warm Period and Modern Warm Period.

We should be glad we live in one of the warming periods.

“”According to the internet, the current temperature in Paris is 62°F.””

***

That’s the low. The high is 81, current at 80.

I notice she says nothing about her bosses in China.

Most likely because the Chinese aren’t making fun of the French like the Americans are. Why would she bring up the Chinese? She’s pissed because Americans are making fun of France and over 1000 French have died.
