The United States and Iran “will stand down for now” following an exchange of fire near the Strait of Hormuz over the last several days, a Trump administration official said on Sunday.
“Both sides will stand down for now and vessels can move freely,” the official said.
It’s not yet clear what Iran’s position is on the matter.
The United States and Iran have agreed to meet in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday for further discussions, according to another US official.

Netenyahu won’t.

I have no respect for peace conferences and diplomats who give away to the enemy what troops risked their lives to gain in battle.
While our troops were suffering injuries, amputations and deaths in the Vietnam War, the diplomats spent weeks bickering back and forth over the shape and type of the conference table for the peace talks.
For younger FReepers: Wikipedia quotes.
"Negotiators in Paris spent 10 weeks arguing over the shape of the conference table—a dispute rooted in whether the Viet Cong were legitimate, equal participants or just an extension of North Vietnam. This procedural wrangle delayed substantive peace talks for months."
The Communist Position (North Vietnam and Viet Cong): Demanded a circular table. They argued a round table would represent all parties as equals, allowing the Viet Cong to negotiate on the same level as the South Vietnamese government.
The South Vietnamese (Saigon) Position: Refused a round table. They argued that a circular design implied the Viet Cong were a legitimate, equal sovereign power. They demanded a rectangular or square table, which would visually depict the classic "two-sided" conflict.
Its so over followed by war is so back later in the week.
This is starting to remind me of the Paris peace talks during the Vietnam war. Enemy intransigence until we blow some of their crap up, which brings them back to the table. Lather, rinse repeat...

LOL.
Trump needs to stop pretending that the IRGC Dictatorship will ever negotiate in good faith.
The IRGC is pathologically dishonest and violent.
The possibility that Trump and the USA will return hundreds of billions of dollars of frozen Iran assets to the IRGC is completely insane!
Iran appears to be playing the part of Trump’s Marionette
Just in time for the pre-markets.
There can be no peace al long as the Revolutionary Guard exists.
It is the mid-terms that is limiting Trump. He needs to preserve the Republican vote, because losing the election means a free for all for Iran.
What the heck is there to negotiate? What is their leverage with no Air Force and Navy??? And why the heck does it take 60 days when their military has been decimated?……geeeez
It would be, but that isn't what is going to happen.
Has anyone actually seen the Cardboard Mullah?
Agree - that is waaaaay too much time. Either we are stalling or Iran is...not sure which. The one thing we know is that Iran does not bargain in good faith. They cannot be trusted at all.
A war that is governed by the price of Brent and WTI.
Just FYI, I know everyone (including the President) use the word ‘decimated’ as meaning totally destroyed.
However, the word decimated means destruction/removal/loss of 10%. Look it up if you don’t believe me.
The proper use of the English language has been decimated, at the very least. Our culture tends to say the opposite of what they mean.
I can list plenty of examples but why bore everyone.
Back to the subject of the thread, consider this: We are trying to win a war where we don’t kill anyone or destroy anything. It’s like trying to win a fight without throwing a punch. It’s not even a war. We were supposed to be escorts and protection for shipping. Protection from an enemy whose Religion is death and destruction in pursuit of world domination.
As for your questions, I don’t think there are any easy answers.
Not a big deal.
Latin ➡️ Romance Languages.
The same thing will happen to English.
