Snap Chief Executive Evan Spiegel and his wife, supermodel Miranda Kerr, have helped pay off $550 million in medical debt for more than 261,000 Californians.
The couple made a multimillion-dollar donation to Undue Medical Debt, a nonprofit that provides debt relief to people in financial need. The organization acquires medical debt in bulk from hospitals, physician groups, collection agencies and other groups for a fraction of the cost.
"When someone you love is sick. All you want to do is focus on helping them get better," said Kerr, who is also the founder of skincare company KORA Organics, in a video with Spiegel. "That's why we wanted to support this effort and help relieve medical debt, so families can focus on caring for their loved ones and really supporting their healing."
In the United States, 1 in 4 adults are in medical debt, said Undue Medical Debt President and Chief Executive Allison Sesso in a statement.
"It's a growing crisis undermining healthcare access, economic wellbeing and mental health and we're so grateful that Evan Spiegel and Miranda Kerr share our belief that no one should go bankrupt because of a cancer diagnosis and no family should have to choose between insulin and groceries," she said.

So they donated $5.5 million?
Damn those evil rich people.
It erased $550 million worth of debt for 261,000 people.
God bless them.
helped pay off $550 million in medical debt
Horrible people aren’t they?/s
I don't want to seem ungrateful but the sick people who owed the debt were never going to pay because they didn't have the money, or weren't inclined to pay the money.
Now the medical community will receive some pennies on the dollar for noncollectable debt. And Evan and Miranda receive recognition as heros for retiring the noncollectable debts.
On a percentage basis, there are several little old ladies in our church that probably contribute more to the community through their tithes and offerings - and do so quietly.
Still, this story makes me feel good..
“It would appear the settlement rate is ten cents on the dollar.”
I calculate it to be one cent on the dollar.
Based on current health care costs I figure at least 5 families had their debts erased.
Seriously that was very generous.
Shhh, If others figure that out the whole system is in peril!
Then they blinked their eyes and it was back up to $600 million

Trump: The Art of the Deal
Donald J. Trump (Author, Narrator)
#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER President Donald J. Trump lays out his professional and personal worldview in this classic work—a firsthand account of the rise of America’s foremost businessman.
“Donald Trump is a deal maker. He is a deal maker the way lions are carnivores and water is wet.”—Chicago Tribune
“I like thinking big. I always have. To me it’s very simple: If you’re going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big.”—Donald J. Trump
Remember this the next time we bash California for being too liberal.
“Seriously that was very generous.”
If I gave $10 to the local hospital to cover a $1,000 emergency room visit by my neighbor would you call it very generous (if you thought I made $100,000 per year)?
When I had emergency surgery the hospital immediately slashed it in half when I said I would pay cash. Once I started challenging mystery charges they settled for 20% and I wrote a check.
It is criminal how hospitals run. Of course I would have paid nothing had I been illegal.
I would have paid nothing had I been illegal.
Indeed it’s a socialism program.

I DRINK MILK-—ALOT-— A 12 OZ GLASS OF MILK COSTS ME ABOUT 40 CENTS. THAT IS NOT A “LUNCH FOR A KID”
