The White House on Wednesday officially asked Congress for $87.6 billion in supplemental funding to pay for the Iran war, curtail the ongoing Ebola outbreak and provide aid to U.S. farmers, among other requests, according to a copy obtained by The Hill.
In a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought asked for $67 billion for the Defense Department, down from an expected $200 billion first floated by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in March.
But even with a smaller price tag, the bill will need some support from Democrats to pass in the Senate at a time when lawmakers in both parties are reluctant to authorize more spending amid the unpopular Middle East conflict.
It also comes as the Trump administration is pushing for a massive $1.5 trillion defense budget, a more than a 40 percent bump from last year, and as Washington is negotiating with Iranian officials to end the Middle East conflict, fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz and eventually do away with Tehran’s nuclear program.
*** The long-awaited package includes $1.7 billion for DOD readiness, $17.3 billion for Operational Costs, $1.5 billion for fuel costs, $1.2 billion for administration priorities, $21 billion for munitions, $5.1 billion for cybersecurity and autonomy; $2.4 billion for drones, $800 million for National Guard support and $12.1 billion for other “classified” programs.
***
In addition to the $67 billion for the Pentagon, the White House asked Congress to provide $2 billion for the Coast Guard in relation to Operation Epic Fury, the official name for the Iran war, $40 million for the FBI for Epic Fury and other classified programs, and $95.5 million for the Department of Energy, also for Epic Fury.

The Ebola outbreak is not our concern at this point. The African countries should be handling this.
I agree. No more nation saving along with no more nation building.
It doesn’t matter who the president is. The United States feels it must be involved in everything, everywhere. Send troops here. Spend money there.
Kind of like with the old British Empire.
And we all know how that turned out.
1. WHY are we not seizing IRAN assets to offset the cost of the war?
2.We should send NATO an invoice for the 77 year shortage their contributions have accumulated to.......
THEN....
make it interest bearing just like any overdue payment...
THEN....
assess a Freedom and Safety of the Seas fee to to any nation with ships chartered in their name......
THEN...
charge anybody outside treaties that needs our military assistance and accept payment in commodities (oil, gas, minerals, basing rights, etc ).
If they do not pay, we collect on theirs goods as they enter the US as tariffs.....or seize their ships at seas or aircraft of ports of entry in “friendly” countries.
I would include SEATO in this assessment deal as well.
On another note, We DO NOT want a pissed off Germany re-arming again.....twice is enough. Keep them friendly or turn it into a preindustrial agricultural power.
We should charge Europe just for stationing troops in Germany to keep them subjugated.
Just say no. Nancy Reagan had it right. If there’s ever a time I want the Senateto say hell no, now is that time. The house will probably pass it because they just say yes to pretty much everything.
Ebola is an annual event in Africa.
Ebola is not airborne so can be isolated. It’s regional.
American farmers would be better off if the central government stopped intervening in the marketplace and calling it “help”.
We have billions of dollars of Iranian assets. However, as per the MOU, we will be returning them to Iran allegedly contingent upon their cooperation and compliance with the MOU. In addition, we, with other nations will be financing a 300 billion dollar reconstruction fund for Iran “The United States of America undertakes with regional partners to develop a definitive mutually agreed plan with at least USD $300 billion for the reconstruction and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” MOU, point 6.
“aid to U.S. farmers”
The farmers & election aspect escaped me when I commented on the 15% ethanol mandate push by POTUS.
I don’t care for propping up dem climate garbage. If DJT had no plan to decouple agriculture from fuel, I have no comment that I can type here.
