(NewsNation) — Iran said Saturday it had closed the Strait of Hormuz again while sending a delegation to Switzerland for renewed talks with the United States, raising tensions even as diplomacy resumes.
The U.S. disputed Iran’s announcement on the strait.
“Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz. Traffic continues to flow, and U.S. forces are monitoring the situation to ensure this remains the case,” said Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for U.S. Central Command. The military said that 55 merchant ships transited Saturday with more than 17 million barrels of oil.
President Donald Trump, in response, threatened to impose American tolls in the crucial waterway if a final deal with Iran isn’t reached in 60 days, saying the money would be for “services rendered as the Guardian Angel to the countries of the Middle East.” His social media post underscored that the agreement calls for toll-free travel for 60 days.

But is that true?
Again... FTA....
I’ve been hitting refresh all day looking for a White House response to the Strait being closed. Nothing is being said.
And yet I finally found a site no one has ever heard of with “anonymous sources”. Strike that. A captain with CentCom denying the closure.
It’s almost as if the Enemedia WANTS to publish and believe lies.
Head ‘em up move ‘em Rawhide.
“Iran said”
They say a lot of things don’t they.....very little of it believable is it.
Trump and allies should set up a program where the strait is opened and the cost of ANY AND ALL damages inflicted upon shipping by Iran will be 100% covered by IRANIAN IMPOUNDED FUNDS. Let the Iran government explain THAT to the Iranian people.
I found the no-closure info at Centcom, too, but I don’t think a lot of the fainting couch crowd looks there for info...
It's the pretense that they know what is going on.
This even holds for non-controversial stories.
Several reports on Twitter-X that I saw attempted to explain this contradiction.
They claim, since no one outside of that area itself probably know for sure, but they claim that there are in fact several large tankers filled to the brim with oil that have passed through today.
However, they claim the tankers that have passed, are all filled with Iranian oil, no matter their home port designation.
As I said this may, or may not be correct, but it could explain the discrepancy in the stories we’re hearing, and Twitter is often the best source for actual open source intel.
You just can't make this stuff up! Cheers! VT
Theres a limit to even President Trump’s patience.....I hope.
Just take over the Gulf already!
Iran lied? Tehran Bob? I’m shocked. NOT
“Iran says it shut Hormuz”
“Iran” also said that the Strait of Hormuz is open...
From the NY Post (June 19, 2026, 6:30 p.m. ET):
“Iran Foreign Ministry says Strait of Hormuz is open after IRGC warned it was closed — sparking confusion”
Iran’s “Leadership” doesn’t know if it is coming or going. They will have to communicate with each other to coordinate actions and positions.
That communication, in turn, will produce Intelligence on who is where, for when the time comes to kill those who still need killing.
Keep them running in circles, chasing their tails, and nipping at each others heels. They need money bad, they have to keep reacting.
“Trump and allies should set up a program where the strait is opened and the cost of ANY AND ALL damages inflicted upon shipping by Iran will be 100% covered by IRANIAN IMPOUNDED FUNDS.”
Nice incentive structure.
Perhaps they could also allow that the assets of at fault Iranian officials could also be held personally liable.
Patience grasshopper.
“They need money bad...”
This is what makes no sense about Iranians closing the Strait. Moving oil through Hormuz profits them some $500 million per day.
However I do believe they would shoot themselves in the foot and close it if it creates harm to Trump and the USA.
They are insane.
What makes you think that the Iranian government cares what the Iranian people think?
Heck, what makes you think that the Iranian government cares in any way for the Iranian people?
