Gov. Kathy Hochul has quietly extended a pilot program providing free healthcare to sex workers – with taxpayers footing the nearly $2.5 million bill.
The state Health Department in 2023 awarded $1 million in public funds to two contractors as part of Hochul’s plan to help the “world’s oldest profession,” but new documents reviewed by The Post show the program extending through June 2028, with $1.5 million more in costs.
Under the initiative, sex workers in NYC and the Buffalo area will continue to receive primary, sexual, behavioral, and dental care.
Critics bashed the hooker healthcare program — which was launched without state Legislature approval – for encouraging prostitution.
They also ripped the politics behind the move, accusing Hochul of extending the pilot to satisfy Mayor Zohran Mamdani and other far-left Dems who want to decriminalize prostitution.
“The lengths by which New York Democrats will cater to the far left has no greater example then Gov. Hochul funding healthcare for hookers to the tune of millions while actual frontline healthcare workers . . . live on food stamps,” said state Assemblyman Michael Novakhov (R-Brooklyn), referring to a repeated gripe by EMTs that they are so poorly paid that many seek government assistance.
“Instead of playing pimp, Kathy ‘Ho-Ho’ Hochul and Mayor ‘Madam’ Mamdani should consider making sure the heroes who answer 911 calls and save lives every day can afford their rent and groceries,” said Novakhov.
State Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo (R-Staten Island) agreed, claiming Hochul is “absolutely catering” to Mamdani and state Democratic Socialists of America pols peddling legislation to decriminalize sex work.
“She is a target and trying to keep them at bay [during her re-election bid] with other people’s money,” Pirozzolo said.

Make it so young women can’t make good money elsewhere and end up eyeing prostitution as some kind of good idea.

So how do hospitals and doctors know that women who walk in are really hookers? Are they issued a Hooker Card?
I don’t get it.
Do people come in and say that they are prostitutes, and then having identified themselves, they qualify for this state program?
I may be naive, but doesn’t prostitution happen in the shadows off the record off the books? So that people are making cash but there’s no record that they actually work in that business?
Then, you wonder if anyone is paying income taxes on the income from the business?
I guess I’m thinking anybody could come in and say that they are a prostitute. And then get these benefits without any sort of documentation or qualifications standards.
Maybe I just don’t understand what’s going on here.
That’s what I wonder, too. It’s not like there’s a membership card that prostitutes carry.

NY should be lucky she isn’t taxing an amount to cover the whole process of getting the illness to the taxpayers along with treating it.
People wonder why they should blame NY for getting themselves into this type of hitch by voting these idiots in. So they people of NY are not innocent victims. They are just as guilty and as much to blame as the stupid governor they put in there. Pretty soon the vice squad room will be a large closet.

If prostitution is legal in NY, then why not just put a sin tax on the service like booze and cigarettes, and let the Johns pay for their health insurance?
My plan paid for dental work but I have no vision coverage. So I paid hundreds of $$$ for reading glasses and regular glasses.
Last year, my plan with another company paid $20,000 for a corneal transplant, which rather sux.
Hard to anticipate what your insurance needs will be for the next year. I work with an official Insurance Advisor. She came to my house and figured out best plan for me this year. And did the same for my daughter.
I think you can look up Insurance Advisor for your town. Might be Medicare Advisor.
Out of control government is out of control.
Four years ago my plan (in Florida) covered up to $2500 dental a year. Then next year they decided to punish out of network dentists and only covered 50%. Now it’s use our corporate dental scammers or get even less benefit. Everything went from beautiful in 2022 to decrepid in 2026. Corporate dental firms use medicare members as patients to target for non-covered expensive procedures.
World going to hell.
Maybe prostitutes could wear body cams (state provided, of course). They should provide full, secure ID including body cam footage of all customers because contact tracing is pretty basic if one wants a heathy sex work industry.
Each sex worker should also have 24/7 in person support by social workers to make sure clients are properly signed in and the health regs are enforced. It would probably be easiest just to run state owned brothels. Mamdani would make them free in NYC.
