A much deeper crisis appears to be taking shape behind the public clash between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, with Israeli officials saying that Trump’s pressure for a withdrawal from southern Lebanon and the Syrian Hermon is far from over and is expected to intensify as the anticipated signing of the memorandum of understanding with Iran approaches on Friday, Maariv reported on Thursday.
Israeli officials told Maariv that Trump’s demands are not merely theoretical and that issues concerning Lebanon, Syria, and the Syrian Hermon were raised in recent discussions with Netanyahu, adding that the prime minister made it clear that Israel will not agree to withdrawing from its security positions in the north. A senior Israeli official told Reuters that Israel is carrying out “stubborn negotiations” with the US on maintaining its military presence in southern Lebanon and has no intention of backing down.
The officials warned that the messages coming from Washington are no longer limited to difficult discussions. The US is signaling that if Israel continues to insist on its position, it will consider practical measures, ranging from delays in weapons shipments to restrictions on operational assistance, and even more severe steps that could potentially amount to a de facto arms embargo.
Trump’s unusual remarks this week against Israeli policy in Lebanon, along with his personal jabs at Netanyahu, are viewed in Jerusalem as the public expression of the intense US pressure being exerted behind the scenes. Trump’s demands include an Israeli withdrawal from five positions in southern Lebanon, a withdrawal from the Syrian Hermon, and a significant reduction in military activity on the northern front.
The officials believe that the Trump administration will not let the issue drop and anticipate more pressure as the expected signing date on Friday approaches, particularly regarding Lebanon. Trump wants an explicit commitment from Netanyahu to withdraw, or at least a formula that would allow Trump to present an achievement regarding Lebanon to the Islamic Republic.

Wait. I keep losing track. Which one is the puppet?
Other Israeli sources rightly cover the human toll of all these campaigns on the Israeli soldiers. Most IDF on the frontlines are under the age of 21.
What would determine it?
If Israel stays in Lebanon and tries to annex more of their neighbors without repercussion from the U.S., is that evidence of who is the puppet?
There is bluster, and there is action.
On March 25, 2019, President Donald Trump signed a presidential proclamation officially recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. This historic policy reversal made the United States the first and only country to recognize Israeli control over the territory, which was captured from Syria in 1967.
Israel is doing nothing the U.S. wouldn’t do if the Mexican cartels were lobbing missiles into the U.S.
Trump was wrong to accept anything in the MOU to be about Lebanon, because the main party that matters regarding Hezbollah in Lebanon was excluded from the negotiations.
Israel should not withdraw while hezbolah exists. JMHO
There’s a lot of good argument about how close the US and Israel are.
But there is no argument over whether the US betrayed it’s ally and partner in this joint endeavor.
It’s disgraceful.
A stain on the history of the US.
I'll help you. It's real simple.
The evidence is overwhelming that Israel lied and pressured the U.S. into this war.
Rubio and Kent both admitted it.
Bibi and Mossad bosses were in the U.S. situation room, feeding crappy intel to Trump, saying Israel needed this, and guaranteeing that the Iran regime would collapse within a week.
After Bibi and Mossad's intel proved faulty or fake, Trump regretted the fine mess Bibi had gotten him into, and is looking for a way to extricate himself.
But don't worry. Israel will do as it pleased, and U.S. aid to Israel will only increase, even if better hidden.
Definitely cheering for Hezbollah to be destroyed by Israel.
U.S. has no say on Israeli self defense.
And yes America sells weapons to dozens of nations.
War is ugly regardless, but with Lebanon in particular, the firsthand accounts of IDF soldiers would differ from your assessment. It is uniquely brutal.
If your allegiance is to Israel then MOVE THERE.
Don’t sit here in America and Talk S as you advocate for another nation!
Henry Kissinger: “It may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal.”
Let us hope.
You and I both know if Mexico was lobbing missiles into the U.S. we wouldn't be able to count on Israel to shoot down any of them, much less 2/3rds of them at their own expense like we do for them when Iran shoots missiles.
Funny how that works.
I am just observing facts.
Oh. Just one question, Chief. Why do you have to lie to a puppet?
“You and I both know if Mexico was lobbing missiles into the U.S. we wouldn’t be able to count on Israel to shoot down any of them, much less 2/3rds of them at their own expense like we do for them when Iran shoots missiles. “
Funny how you don’t know what your are talking about. Israel’s Iron dome, and other, anti-missile defense systems work very well and if asked they would not hesitate to share their elements with the U.S.
When did I ever accuse you of being a puppet?
You are in such as state of hysteria, you've lost all reading comprehension skills.
Anti-Semetic?
