Donald Trump and Iran sign peace deal aiming to reopen Strait of Hormuz and end the war

Donald Trump and the president of Iran have signed a peace deal aiming to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The agreement will take 'immediate effect' and also includes a plan for Iran's 'reconstruction' and the US terminating 'all types of sanctions' on Tehran.

However, the issue of Iran's nuclear programme - the main reason why Trump began his military campaign in February - remains under negotiation for a further 60-day period.

Trump has said the peace agreement will stave off an 'economic catastrophe' but threatened to 'bomb the hell' out of Iran if no final deal emerged.

Part of the agreement involves Iran making arrangements to ensure that traffic starts flowing through the Strait of Hormuz 'immediately'.

The negotiations have been shrouded in secrecy and confusion for days. US officials refused to disclose the terms even after saying Trump and Vice President JD Vance digitally signed it over the weekend.

Trump signed a physical copy on Wednesday while dining with French President Emmanuel Macron at Versailles, the palace where many historic agreements have been signed over the centuries, ending wars or territorial disputes.

The White House had planned a signing ceremony on Friday in Switzerland, but its fate is now uncertain, with conflicting information from the US, Iran and Pakistan.

'It's signed,' Trump said as he left the dinner at Versailles, which followed his trip to the Group of Seven summit in France.

In a video posted online by a White House aide, Trump was seen seated at a table next to Macron signing a paper copy of the agreement.

Trump then handed the document and pen to Secretary of State Marco Rubio as people in the room applauded.

'This was not easy,' Trump said right before he signed it, according to a video posted to social media by Macron.

Oil prices fell over 3 per cent after the deal was signed.

In the US, top figures were divided in their opinion over the agreement.

Iran won’t give up their nuclear program.

Expect 60 days of stalling and excuses.

This “deal” will drag JD Vance down with it, as it collapses.

Trumps real ME clients are mega oil producers Saudi Arabia + Sunni Gulf nations. When they peeled off from the Iran war coalition, Trump went the negotiations route about 60 days ago.

Sunni Saudi Arabia + Sunni Gulf nations got hit by Shiite IRGC a few times and went full blown cowards. Pressured Trump to stop bombarding Iran/IRGC installations.

Its not a peace deal. It’s more like an extension of the ceasefire.

Trump says oil reserves would run out in 4 weeks without Iran deal, risking ‘bedlam’

This I believe is the reason we are backing out. The Strait has to be opened quickly or it will be a worldwide economic disaster.

Iran holds the card here whether we like it or not.

Its not a peace deal. It’s more like a U.S. surrender to a terrorist regime. n extension of the ceasefire

Fixed it.

The “peace deal” is really a threat regarding what WILL happen if no concrete results are achieved within a given time frame. The IRGC and the ayatollahs will lie, and deceive, and waffle, and procrastinate, right up until the last moment, then POW! comes a fetch upside the head.

Mamma don’t take any back talk, hear?

Its not a peace deal. It’s more like an extension of the ceasefire.

I remember back in March, after we had won the war for like the 8th time, that ‘unconditional surrender’ was the demand.

Heady days…

It didn’t help that Trump talked so much about oil supplies and how he doesn’t want regime change, rather than going all out to warn Americans about the horror of Iran getting A-bombs.

Sanctions lifted, Iranian oil exports resumed, 60 day guarantee from Iran not to demand tolls and fire on ships that don’t pay, a withdrawal of U.S. forces, a promise from Iran not to launch attacks against U.S. allies but not a word about Iranian support for terrorists and war by proxy, the future of Iran’s nuclear program tbd.

This after a brilliantly executed air and sea campaign in which U.S. forces established complete military dominance ... whereupon the CinC lost his nerve in a war that he started without ever thinking through the endgame. And now the endgame has bitten him in the butt.

This sets some kind of record in the Farce Olympics. Trump moved from shock and awe, unconditional surrender, and regime change to tail-between-the-legs bugout in record time ... in a war in which the U.S. won every engagement.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I didn’t vote for this. Immediately after the first strikes a couple of months ago, I asked where was the Iranian government in exile. Trump never even bothered to organize that. Instead, he called for unarmed Iranian civilians to rise up and take their country back, figuring something out after the IRGC ran out of bullets. Now Trump has even pledged not to support any such efforts and says the deal will be guaranteed by a binding resolution of the UN Security Council. Acceding to UN sovereignty over U.S. statutes and policy is something we’ve gotten used to the democrats doing in order to end run Congress. So Trump has now gone over to the left on that too.

Can you imagine being a Republican running for the House or Senate, or for dogcatcher for that matter, and being expected to defend this? Trump’s idea this morning seems to be that the price of gas is the only thing that matters. Maybe he can turn the UFC fights on the White House lawn into a weekly series. Imagine being a U.S. soldier, sailor or airman going into Trump’s next military adventure and knowing that the mission will be supported only as long as the overnight polling is good.

Aside from controlling the border, which is of first order importance, what has Trump NOT reneged on?

I know, I know ... the cultists will be along soon to say that this is all strategy: not to worry, because Trump doesn’t mean a word of it and that Trump will be back to bombing whever it suits him.

This is madness. I would not be surprised to wake up some morning and discover that the 25th Amendment has been exercised.

As long as the current regime, powered by the IRGC remains in control the people of Iran will remain enslaved to a vicious ideology.

instead, it’s more of the same “4-D chess and part of some great plan” when it’s clear he was completely out of his element as a wartime president.

This will start up again in September, just before the midterms. Trump had Iran by the gonads and he’s blown it either through sheer incompetence or we ran out of ammo.
