(WIFR) - Meta believes the “Future is for Everyone.”
The tech industry giant announced legally blind veterans in America can get a free pair of its Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses.
While most people probably know the spectacles as being used to record hands-free first-person point-of-view content with its camera, its built-in multimodal AI assistant can understand auditory requests and process visual cues.
Meta says the initiative to get the wearable tech in the hands and on the heads of blind veterans is designed to help them live more independently.
The Meta AI, which is built on Meta’s large language model Llama, can help those visually impaired by reading documents, menus and signs, identify objects, match clothing, make calls, send texts, and more.
To support veterans in integrating the AI assistant as a part of their everyday lives, Meta is partnering with the Blinded Veterans Association and TechSoup to provide hands-on training, monthly live webinars, and a training guide.
Eligible veterans can request their pair of Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses through bva.org/glasses. Veteran organizations seeking to help their members or other eligible blinded veterans receive glasses can apply through TechSoup.

That’s a nice thing to do. I hope folks are helped by them.
If you want Meta to have a record of everything that you look at, sure.
Wild. Very cool.
I hope they’re not using the VA standard for blindness?
I’ve met some young Soldiers with one eye. A couple had the coolest digital eye. New research is absolutely amazing. It’s a shame that prosthetic science only advances when there’s a war and young men and women are blown to pieces.
After a little poke I’m down to one and a half eyes. Better than none.
At first, I didn’t understand how these could help. Then I read the article. For those that didn’t read the article, this is an amazing resource for the blind.
- glasses recognize text and will read it to you
- it can recognize colors and tell you about them
- it can describe shapes
- sends texts and receive
Wonderful technology. Kudos to Meta.
Yes, here’s hoping they’ll be helped greatly.
.
My wife has been wanting glasses like that that would allow her to capture what she sees in a split second. I may get her a pair for her birthday. Amazon has them for $379.
I hope the recipients are informed about privacy laws when gifted with these specs.

The next step after this is Musk’s NeuraLink hooked up to these glasses.
The future’s so bright, I have to wear shades!
How can they afford to do this?
Same here.
