Road Trip: Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, New Jersey

The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) conducts research, development, test, evaluation and sustainment for all United States Navy and United States Marine Corps aircraft and aircraft systems. It operates a test wing and ranges, facilities, laboratories and aircraft in support of military operations worldwide.

The NAWCAD Lakehurst Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) Department executes the timely development, acquisition and sustainment of ALRE systems for the Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (PMA-251) Program Office. The department is responsible for all systems and equipment used for launch and recovery of fixed and rotary wing aircraft:

Aircraft Launch & Recovery Systems
Visual Landing Aids
Wind-Measuring Systems
Shipboard Aviation Information Systems
Shipboard Aviation Marking and Lighting
Shore-based Recovery Systems & Visual Landing Aids
USMC Expeditionary Airfields Matting, Recovery Systems, Landing Aids and Airfield Lighting

The Prototype and Manufacturing Division (PMD) facility has more than 305,000 square feet of industrial campus, with more than 300 computer controlled and conventional manufacturing machines. PMD has more than 40 years of proven manufacturing experience supporting aircraft platform interface missions and is dedicated to our mission of speed to the fleet through manufacturing excellence.

Performs rapid product realization by providing and utilizing the capabilities of advanced manufacturing, rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, reverse engineering, producibility and analysis. Supports various SE and ALRE programs and platforms throughout the entire acquisition lifecycle.

Operates under an ISO 9001 Certified Quality Management System, providing expert manufacturing and industrial engineering services that aid in materiel solution system development, acquisition, evaluation, verification/certification, depot support, and installation support.

The Aviation Data Management and Control System (ADMACS) is a tactical, real-time data management system that connects the air department, ship divisions and embarked staff who manage aircraft launch and recovery operations aboard ships. ADMACS communicates real-time aviation and command-related data across the system's local area network and the Consolidated Afloat Network and Enterprise Services (CANES) network.

Important data, such as the position and location of aircraft on flight and hangar decks, is then electronically displayed in the flight deck control room. ADMACS also displays the status of Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE), fuel, weapons and other aviation and ship- related information.

Yep, it was darn-right pleasant here today and yep, gonna feel like 100 degrees in a couple of days.

Still on a short day work schedule for a couple more weeks so I get home before it gets too hot. WOO HOO!

Only problem is that I have lost my glasses and I can’t see a darn thing, LOL!
