Vice President JD Vance, in an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” said he and his wife, Usha Vance, will discuss a 2028 presidential run after this year’s midterm elections.
“Usha and I will absolutely sit down and talk about what comes next for our family,” Vance told CBS. “The way I make decisions is I try not to make them until I absolutely must.”
He said he expects President Donald Trump to be “very supportive” of his eventual decision.
“I have no doubt that the president of the United States is going to be very supportive of anything that I ultimately decide to do,” Vance said. “But we really just haven’t talked about what that thing will be.”
A person close to Vance who spoke on the condition of anonymity to comment on private discussions has cited the expected birth of the vice president’s fourth child in late July as a reason he has not yet made a decision on a 2028 run, The Post reported in March.
Vance, 41, represented Ohio in the Senate for two years before becoming vice president. He is a Marine Corps veteran and a Yale Law School graduate who gained prominence for his memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.”
Once a critic of military interventions overseas, Vance has become a staunch defender of the war in Iran and other Trump policies.
Vance is the most high-profile of the potential 2028 contenders in the Trump administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Vance and Rubio have recently appeared in the White House briefing room, further fueling 2028 speculation as they raised their profiles. While Trump has stoked a rivalry between the two, he has also suggested that they could be running mates.

Sounds like he has to ask the missus for permission.
If this peace deal works out good, he has options.
If this “peace in our time” deal flops, he has a tough sell ahead.
I hope it works out.
We know that Trump will never ask for permission.

Actually it sounds like he’s a good family man.
It was reported thus week that his chief of staff was leaving office at the end of summer.
I have suggested he resign as VP after the mid terms in November and begin to plan a run for Senator from Ohio in 2028. Leave the POTUS to Rubio for 4 years and then Run for POTUS.
Right now, as VP his portfolio has very little weight. He needs more actual big decision making experience. Being a Senator again for now will serve him better - in my ignorant opinion.
Don’t rush the decision, JD. Give yourself until at least 2036 to make a decision.
Not an optimum time to reveal potential plans...
The slings and arrows and mud will soon start engulfing them both...
Your comment reflects the exact opposite of Vance’s wisdom.
Neither did trump - I like JD Very much
I think we should go with Rubio in 2028 because I think he's going to be a clear winner.
“Leave the POTUS to Rubio for 4 year”
Before people start fawning over Rubio, better check to see if he’s still strongly pro-amnesty. Maybe he’s has a come-to-Jesus moment recently and has changed his mind; I hope so.
Rubio is 10 years older and has performed waaaay beyond expectations.
2036 might be a better fit for Vance.
I’m sure it’s already been discussed a hundred times.
What did you expect him to do? Announce today that he was running? This is the perfect answer from Vance, and one that people can respect. Vance knows how to play the game and be diplomatic, unlike his boss.
Rubio cannot carry Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, or Michigan. The correct answer is Vance/Rubio. I would actually prefer a ticket of Vance and Gabbard, but we’ll see.
Vance is going to have to maintain Trump's MAGA coalition but without his charisma.
Don’t forget Peter Theil.
**I have suggested he resign as VP after the mid terms in November and begin to plan a run for Senator from Ohio in 2028. Leave the POTUS to Rubio for 4 years and then Run for POTUS.**
Senate-been there done that.
Give him a SCOTUS nomination for 40 years. The 4 kids he has is a show-stopper.
Even before the midterms, he should have long been planning and networking about the 2028 elections. President Trump went into his first and second winning elections with plans that would have dwarfed the D-Day invasion plans. As such, he hit the ground running.
Since it’s unlikely that Vance has a “brain trust” ready and waiting, he has to build one from scratch.
