Subtraction, not addition, is emerging as the central threat to Republicans in the 2026 election.
The subtraction risk for Republicans is the prospect that President Donald Trump’s slipping approval rating among his 2024 voters will cause meaningful components of the coalition that elected him to sit out November’s midterms.
Polls suggest that’s a greater danger for the GOP than the possibility that Democrats will add a big cache of new votes — either by turning out many people who did not participate in 2024, or by convincing a significant share of 2024 Trump supporters to vote blue.

I dunno. I mean, if you ever were a Trump supporter, I doubt that you will stay home in the midterms and let the Democrats get into power, even if your support for Trump has slipped. I think that dropping approval numbers are a bit overblown. More hopium from CNN, in my opinion.
As much as I hate to agree with anything CNN... this is true. It’s up to each of us to help ensure that it DOESN’T happen by voting, and by encouraging conservatives within our sphere of influence to vote as well.
...Democrats will add a big cache of new votes
They didn’t mention the illegal immigrants who vote in lax voter ID areas.
Are lazy GOP voters who stay home under the delusion that life will go on just fine for them after a socialist takeover?
That has never happened.

I plan to register my displeasure with the Republican Party by NOT voting in 2026.
That'll show them!
Is there EVER a story by these retards about the dems possibly doing poorly in any given upcoming election?? Dems are not popular at all!
Voters are doing their part by getting rid of Cornyn/Cassidy and forcing Tillis out. If we can keep the house it will be more united as the senate should stay ours. Just my opinion.
More motivation. The next fire(’28) will be lighted under the asses of Thune and Murkowski. The thought of it’s plenty to motivate us for this November. Let’s hope Alaska governor Dunlevey runs and has no heart issue. He did in the past.

Well said!
My best friend who is a major political junkie and MAGA trump lover is not voting in the midterms because she’s convinced and I believe rightly so that our elections in GA are still rigged.
Mr. GG2 and I forced ourselves to the polls but we get the feeling that our votes are likely not being counted. Its infuriating but we still have to try.
My first election was 1972. I was just old enough. Ever since I’ve been prepared to crawl over broken glass to get to the polls. And I’ll never lose that attitude.
She should recall DJT’s words “make it too big to rig”.
When the curtain drops the question will be why did anyone think America would vote for Communists and Nazis?
The title is truth. Republicans are lazy and too self-righteous to get out and vote. How many times have we seen republicans doom a candidate while Dems NEVER vote against party.
Lots of independents don’t vote in the midterms and have already checked out. Gop and dems are a given in votes right now, the edges make the elections.
CNN is so concerned for the Republicans...NOT!
Shhh. Don't wake up all the gutless cowards and weak bladders right here on FR. JimRob would be embarrassed if he could see the Amen Chorus on every Trump-bashing CNN, NY Times, MSNOW and NPR article posted here. It's disgusting.
