It was bedlam on Broadway as the New York Knicks won their first NBA championship in 53 years on Saturday night, with exuberant celebrations marred by mayhem and violence, including gunshots in Times Square.
Outside Madison Square Garden, a crowd watching on a big screen roared as the Knicks rallied from a 16-point deficit to beat the Spurs in San Antonio in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Soon after, rowdy fans were clashing with police, smashing windshields, scaling scaffolding, light poles and a statue, climbing into and atop school buses in Times Square and trying to hitch a ride on a moving fire truck. Later, one of the buses was engulfed in flames.
Around 2 a.m., gunshots were fired near 42nd Street and Broadway, police said. Bystander video captured the sound of at least seven shots and showed people crouching and running for cover. Preliminary reports indicated no one was injured, police said.

Imagine what the teens would have done if they lost.
Burning and killing is not a reasonable response to winning a ball game.
The game....win OR lose was just an excuse.
It’s a ritual. Like whooping, flailing and dancing around a fire. The metal through the lips and noses has replaced bones, but it has been happening for a very long time.
“...with exuberant celebrations marred by mayhem and violence, including gunshots in Times Square.”
How is that any different than an average NYC Saturday Night?
*SMIRK*
whatever problems they have from their celebrations will be dwarfed by the big problem they voted for themselves in November
You need to become a Green Bay Packers Fan. We don’t behave like that. We have a lot of fun, win or lose. And trust me, I’ve been a fan since I was 4 years old...and we’ve lost a LOT of games, LOL!
BUT - we won the first TWO Super Bowls and a few more along the way, so there’s that.
If you can’t make it to Lambeau Field, you can find a Packer Bar just about anywhere in the WORLD. :)

It is them again Boo Boo.
Exactly.
Once again.
Most of them probably have no clue what a New York Knicks is ,LOL
I predicted this last night.
Knicks lose? Riot.
Knicks win? Riot.
Stay classy, New York. Stay classy…..
Last time I watched the Knicks, was during the Willis Reed, Dave Debuschere, Walt Frazier, Bill Bradley, Phil Jackson years.
Since living in Florida, have not followed basketball at all, until the Finals. Brings back memories, but haven’t missed NYC at all.
Let the fiery “celebrations” begin. I will never understand why it is so difficult for some fans to celebrate a championship victory without burning, looting and mayhem. Is destruction a “necessary” component to celebrating a sports championship?
Same with the Patriots and we have won an awful lot.😉
Personally I was expecting much worse.
