On Friday, in Midland, Texas, an as-yet unidentified gunman opened fire, resulting in one victim killed and at least nine wounded. The shooter, as of this writing, has barricaded himself in a building, which is surrounded by police.
At least one person is dead and others were injured in an active shooting situation while the suspect has barricaded himself inside a building in downtown Midland, Texas, Midland Mayor Lori Blong said in a Friday press conference.
Midland Mayor Lori Blong said there were 11 victims in total, and that police have established a perimeter and are asking residents to avoid the area. It was not clear exactly where the gunfire took place.
Blong said during a press conference that there were no confirmed details about the shooter, who is "contained."
The FBI is aware of the shooting and has agents from its Midland satellite office on scene, a bureau source told Fox News Digital.
At the moment, it's not clear how the incident started.
The situation began in southeast Midland and progressed across south Midland, Blong said, before police were first dispatched at 8:03 a.m. local time.
Midland Memorial Hospital said it had received nine victims from the shooting, with four are in the operating room and five considered stable. The hospital's main campus went on lockdown for nearly two hours due to the shooting, and the emergency department continues to be locked down.
That's pretty much all we know for the moment.
Midland, Texas, is in west-central Texas, in the oil-rich Permian Basin. It has a population of 132,000 (296,000 in the metro area) and is the original home of several members of the Bush family.

When I was in high school in Arizona, we had a woman classmate from Midland, TX. Some fellow classmates joked that the city was called “Mudland”.
That’s all I know about it.
Since the shooter is dead, we will not find out much about the shooter’s background.
And that is the way politicians like it. Nothing worse for judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys than to be criticized for letting criminal with a long rap sheet to be walking the streets, like they did with the dude in Carolina.
Unless he/she/it left some kind of manifesto like the school shooters did.
Since the shooter is dead, we will not find out much about the shooter’s background.

These demented shooters usually leave of a record of their mental illness, drug use, criminal records and bizarre political beliefs once they are identified. Sadly this is becoming so common that the whole incident will soon be forgotten. Any discussion will be loaded with meaningless cliches masquarading as “analysis”. The only comfort to the victims and their families is that the lowlife is dead.
I hope he didn’t yell Allahua Ackbar. That always confuses the authorities on the motive.

Most important thing to know if you go to Midland is to not drink or brush your teeth with tap water. It has a decided chemical taste.
In the meantime, extensive forensics and laboratory testing are ongoing before law enforcement release information on the murder's ethnicity.
