Multiple floors and corridors inside the Pentagon have been locked down and others are being evacuated due to a “hazardous materials incident,” three sources familiar and the local fire department said.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed Thursday that systems within the Pentagon “have detected an air quality issue necessitating precautionary measures until we determine its significance.”
“The Department is executing standard protection protocols, including a shelter-in-place order for the affected area,” Parnell said. “Response teams are in place and ready to support building occupants.”

There’s probably so much asbestos and other like materials they could never gut it. 25k employees report there every day. Do we really need that building so close to the coast just like the WH? I say move both inland and turn the building into a jail. If 25k people can work there that many of the jailed could have plenty of space to make license plates or sew up together military uniforms. Very escape proof.

Much of the asbestos (maybe all but that is unlikely) was removed by 2011 when the renovation project was completed. This was highlighted in many news articles after the 911 attacks. The section bombed was one recently upgrade and the upgrades actually worked a intended for such an event.

Seems rather stupid to me if a hazardous substance is in the air to seal yourself in with it to shelter in place.
