Donald Trump said he would plead with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to retaliate against Iranian strikes on Israel - which came in response to Israeli strikes on Beirut on Sunday.
‘I am going to call Bibi right now and tell him not to retaliate,’ Trump was quoted as saying by Axios journalist Barak Ravid in a phone interview, using the Israeli leader’s nickname.
‘Each of them had their fun. Israel had its strike and Iran had its strike. We don’t need another one,’ Mr Trump said.
Trump described the attack - the first Iranian strikes on Israeli soil since April - as 'unhelpful' to the peace process and called for calm between the two nations.
'We're very close,' the president told Fox News about his progress on a landmark peace deal.
'I would say an agreement would be signed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of this coming week. And now this takes place.'
Addressing Iran, he said: 'You've shot your missiles, that's enough. Get back to the table and make a deal.'
He told The Financial Times that Netanyahu did not have a choice about whether to accept the terms of the US deal with Iran.
'He won’t have any choice,' Trump told the FT. 'I call the shots. I call all the shots. He [Netanyahu] doesn’t call the shots.'
He also told The New York Post that 'things are going very well' despite the chaos.

But I think he wants "a deal" and for this war to end already.
Overwhelming violence is all understand. End it once and for all. Trump is being played and it’s not 4D chess.
He’s playing Neville Chamberlain, thinking everything can be negotiated.
There are some things you can’t negotiate.

It sure does look like he’s being played.
The only other explanation for Trump’s apparent fixation on a deal is that he knows there won’t be one, but that he is trying to keep oil prices down because of the midterms. IOW Trump is pretending to think there will be a deal. That may in fact be what’s going on.
this Iranian attack on Israel does feel like another Iranian diversionary move to delay delay delay.
That’ll larn ‘em.
There is no deal.
Islamists simply don’t surrender... ever.
The only ‘deal’ is when they are all dead.
Trump is begging for this war to end. It didn’t quite go as easy as Venezuela did.
