Former U.S. Senator of Oregon Bob Packwood has died at the age of 93.

Packwood was a moderate Republican and Portland native with a complicated legacy. His passing was first reported by Oregon Public Broadcasting.

Mult Co Board passes $4B budget; 158 positions cut During his time in Congress, Packwood was chair of the Senate Finance Committee. He was also an environmentalist, a supporter of Israel, and was well known nationally as a strong supporter of women’s rights, including a woman’s right to choose an abortion even before the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision.

However, a congressional investigation found that over 20 years, he had committed at least 17 instances of sexual misconduct, involving staffers and lobbyists.

“During his time in the Senate, which was 26 years, he personally led the biggest rewrite of the tax code across the country,” said Kerry Tymchuk, executive director of the Oregon Historical Society

In 1995, the Senate Ethics Committee recommended that Packwood be expelled from the Senate. Instead, he resigned.

Packwood spent his later years as a Washington D.C. lobbyist.

He was a state lawmaker, then became a U.S. senator, the youngest in the country at the time, at age 36.

The office of Oregon Senator Christine Drazan sent the following statement to KOIN 6 News about Packwood’s passing:

“From the Oregon House of Representatives to more than a quarter-century in the United States Senate, Bob Packwood was a consequential figure whose influence shaped generations of political leaders and public policy debates. As Oregon reflects on his life and legacy, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

For those of you in Rio Linda, Bob Packwood spent his Senate career kissing up to Democrats, but then when he was #metooed, they didn't save him. I remember Patricia Ireland, saying something about how he was great, but they had to "be consistent" and push him out of office. But a few years later when Bill Clinton made Packwood look like a picker, they realized than consistency was the bugaboo of small minds.

P>Bob Packwood was one of the most rabidly pro-abortion people out there. He introduced a bill in 1970, three years before Roe v. Wade to make abortion legal nationwide. He also reciever the Margaret Sanger award from Planned Parenthood.

This POS is a major reason why I despise RINOs and most senators to this day going all the way back to high school.

He’s behavior is typical and expected of fanatic pro-abortion men. Abortion is essential to their philandering lifestyle. It allows them the option of eliminating the unwanted waste products of their trysts.

And, for this, he's labelled a "moderate"?

Yep! Sounds like a Democrat to me.
