U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth urged Asian allies on Saturday to ramp up military spending to counter China's growing power and prevent its dominance in the region, warning of "rightful alarm" ‌over its rapid military buildup.

Hegseth, speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Asia's premier forum for defence leaders, militaries and diplomats, said a stronger, more self-reliant network of allies is essential to deter aggression and preserve the balance of power.

"There is rightful alarm regarding China's historic military buildup and the expansion of its military activities in the region and beyond," he said.

"A Pacific dominated by any hegemon would unravel the regional balance of power," Hegseth said. "No state, including China, can impose its hegemony and hold the security or prosperity of our nation and our allies in question."

I doubt they care, because they sure haven’t shown concern previously. I think they like being dominated, except by Trumo. Boy will they learn a hard truth when reality overtakes them.

This is ridiculous. We sent our manufacturing, technology, money, and tax base over there, and have yet to bring a substantial part back.

Now we need to pay for a build up to counter their threat? A threat that we paid for with our (borrowed) consumer dollars?

Maybe we should repatriate our tax base so we can pay for our own buildup, instead of paying for theirs while we borrow to pay for ours.

That isn't just the government's job. We all have to do our part to make it profitable to make stuff here again. How? By buying American labor wherever possible.

I'm sorry if that means you have to pay a few more dimes, but borrowing and spending is the only thing that has kept our free traitor economy from crashing, as in 2024 when we had to raise the debt limit just to pay the interest on all of that money we borrowed. We can either pay a little more now, or stick our kids and grandkids with having to pay a lot more later.

100%!! It takes effort to buy American, but it's essential. At the same time, we need to make US manufactures know that we demand quality. Personally, I think it's better to have less 'stuff', but for those things you really need buy quality (generally more expensive).

Buy less, but when possible buy US.

At the same time, we need to make US manufactures know that we demand quality.

That will come in the long run, when companies that make their products here have to compete with other companies that also make their products here. That won't happen until we show we're willing to buy them so they do come back.

That's the short term price we'll have to pay after we gutted American manufacturing.
