Federal judge halts work on Trump’s ‘anti-weaponization fund’

A federal judge in Virginia has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from moving ahead with plans to create a nearly $1.8 billion fund to compensate people who it says were wrongly targeted by the government in the past.

The brief order from US District Judge Leonie Brinkema says the administration cannot take any action “pursuant to the creation or operation of the Anti-Weaponization Fund, which includes the transferring of money to the Fund; the consideration of any claims submitted to the Fund; and the disbursing of any funds from the Fund.”

She set a hearing for June 12 to hear arguments over whether she should issue a more lasting pause on the government’s efforts to set up the fund, which is being challenged by a diverse coalition of critics and entities who say they’ve been targeted by the Trump administration and are ineligible to receive money from it.

Brinkema, an appointee of former President Bill Clinton, said she was pausing work on the fund for now to maintain the status quo while she considers the legal challenge. She pointed to the fact that the Justice Department had not committed to holding off on transferring money into it or processing payments while initial court proceedings played out.

She asked the Justice Department to submit written legal arguments in the case by next Friday.

The case is one of several brought in the last week against the controversial fund, which was unveiled earlier this month after Trump settled an unprecedented lawsuit he had brought against the Internal Revenue Service.

The fund, which will be run by five commissioners selected by the attorney general, will review claims submitted by people who say they were unfairly targeted by previous administrations.

To be fair, these are wrongful prosecutions that were part of a RICO conspiracy on the part of the government itself. The result should be that those involved should be charged and prosecuted. Setting up funds isn’t a solution to the problem.

There is practically no oversight on these NGOs. They ask for money, grants, and the administration in charge gives them money, no questions asked. Whether or not they are a legitimate organization is a different question.
Just say, “We feed, house, help with medical care for the Homeless, immigrants, drug addicted, mentally ill, even veterans.” is all you need to say.

In reality they eat up the money in ‘overhead costs’, huge salaries for their CEOs and board members. First Class Travel, 5-star hotels, Exotic locations, To “raise awareness”.............

I thought you had to show damages to get an injunction. How is setting up the fund damaging anyone before any payments are made.

Exactly.

Where are these ‘judges’ putting a stop to this out of control grift?

Oh, that’s right ... likely on the take.

Since they won’t benefit from this fund, they want it stopped.

They claim that the fund is unconstitutional and therefore would harm the taxpayers because the money would be gone............

Isn’t this money a part of a settlement to Trump and his family over leaked tax returns? Don’t they get to do whatever they want with it?

Still ZERO impeached judges.

The Kyle Rittenhouse types are going to get the impression that justice is dead. I hope they don't get stopped at an antifa checkpoint.

I love when the feds charge companies for SEC violations as the guardian of the stockholder interest. Then the company and DOJ sign a settlement agreement for $50 million with no admission of guilt or trials. That $50 million then comes from the very stockholders the SEC-DOJ are "protecting".

Criminal A steals from you. Then Criminal B pretending to be your cop, steals from you as "justice".

Seems to me there are two sides. Prosecution is one, restitution is the other.
If the Goivernment agents committed the RICO conspiracy the Government is responsible for restitution. Similar funds have been set up for similar situations in the past.
Keepseagle Case: The Obama administration created a $760 million fund to redress claims alleging racism against the federal government over decades
USDA Settlements: The Justice Department also referenced past USDA settlements that resolved discrimination claims brought by Native American, Hispanic, and female farmers
