The times, they are a-changin', as then-folk music troubadour Bob Dylan once sang about the radical era America found herself swimming/wading through in the Sixties.
You could say the same thing about whatever they end up calling this era, and the second Trump administration at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Readers may have seen some of our pieces - so far on Wednesday - covering the Cabinet meeting open to the media.
Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent, per a Playbook report on the team meet-up, explained that "The continued resilience of the economy speaks for itself, even during the Iran — the conflict." It all ties together, after all.
Department of Homeland Security Sec. Markwayne Mullin chimed in as well, which my colleague Bob Hoge shared earlier, refusing to let radical anti-ICE activists like Arizona Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D) throw out reckless slurs against his team unchecked, about allegedly Third-World-esque conditions inside detention/processing centers run by the DHS. And yeah, no one will ever confuse the places for Holiday Inns, Mr. Secretary.
Then there was Secretary of State Marco Rubio, fresh off a whirlwind diplomatic trip to India, as columnist Brad Essex covered early on Wednesday, among other nations, giving an update to everyone present.
This part of the Cabinet meeting was on Iran's lame head-fake of a new peace proposal on Wednesday morning, something both Pres. Trump and the WH gave an initial reaction to this morning, as RedState's Nick Arama wrote.
"First, Secretary Rubio talked about Iran and its nuclear program," as we wrote about the meeting. Here's part of what he said on Iran's words/actions to this point on a peace deal:
First of all, the bottom line is Iran's never going to have a nuclear weapon. And if recent events have done anything, it just reminds us once again that they are the world's leading sponsor of terrorism. And they can never have a nuclear weapon. Now, the president's preference, Mr. President, your preference, as he's told us repeatedly, as always, is to negotiate these things and to figure out if we can have agreements. Diplomacy is our first option, and we continue to work on that through envoys, Mr. Witkoff, and Kushner and others, the vice president, who has been very involved. There's an agreement to be made; we want that to happen. I think there's been some progress and some interest. We'll see over the next few hours or days whether progress can be made.
But I just want to remind everybody, Mr. President, as you know as well, there are other options available to you if that doesn't work....
President Trump had more to say about the Iranian regime's recent shenanigans - and he wasn't having it - even calling out the lying legacy media:
TRUMP calls Iran's bluff on waiting to get a deal until after the midterms:
"I don't care about the midterms. Look what happened last night. That was the prelude to the midterms. People understand that. They know that. Very simple. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. I'm doing… pic.twitter.com/ixVbTqhzhe— Townhall.com (@townhallcom) May 27, 2026
"People don't want to write about [how well the U.S. is doing versus Iran], but Iran is very much intent. They very much want to make a deal," Trump said. "So far they haven't gotten there, we're not satisfied with it, but we will be...or we'll just have to finish the job."
He continued, "They're negotiating on fumes, but we'll see what happens. Maybe we have to go back and finish it, maybe we don't."
Pres. Trump praised the work of Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, adding that "[Iran] looks like they just want to make a deal. I don't think they have a choice," pointing out that their "economy is in freefall....their money has no value, their whole economic system is broken down."
He tore into them here, saying that Iran mistakenly "thought they could outwait" the U.S., with our officials being occupied with the midterm elections:
I don't care about the midterms. Look what happened last night. That was the prelude to the midterms. People understand it. They know that it's very simple. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.
Something Trump made sure to mention during the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday - the 12th one of Trump 47, he said - was that they were saying goodbye to DNI Tulsi Gabbard, as she leaves to be by her husband's side during treatment for cancer:
President Trump pays tribute to DNI Tulsi Gabbard after she announced her resignation to care for her husband after he was diagnosed with cancer.
"Tulsi, we're praying for you and your husband. Her husband's not feeling great, but he's going to feel great soon. You're going to… pic.twitter.com/AOFbPyDBTj— Townhall.com (@townhallcom) May 27, 2026
It just goes to show that even during meetings on tense situations involving war, making the economy more affordable, and keeping the homeland safe, there's always time for a touch of humanity.

“Shenanigans”?
The Shia Muzzies are part Irish?
Europeans and their Democrat/globalist allies in DC and the US media have everyone convinced that Trump “needs” to open the Straights.
What if it is Trump’s long-term plan to simply keeping the Straights closed to any Iran regime that does not meet US liking?
UAE/Saudi and even Iraq can build pipelines exiting in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea or even the Mediterranean. At some point in 12-18 months, the Gulf Cooperation Countries may not need the Persian Gulf at all.
Meanwhile Iran’s only exit is land-routes to the East - and these can be bombed. Iran will be completely isolated and blockaded. Iran is not needed.
Iran’s land connections to the East need to be severed.
Iran is shipping oil by rail to China. Slow but better than nothing at all..............
...shipping oil by rail ...
Just how tough is it to stop that?
...”The Shia Muzzies are part Irish?”...
only when they’re slingin’ their shillelaghs??!
Trump has said the war was over 43 times and counting.
Close the straight, blow up the rails and sell US oil to Iran’s customers. Starve the bastards out. Gotta be cheaper than continuing the war.
Everything he does is for the benefit of, and under the orders of israel.
Member of Tucker Carlson wing of Republican party has spoken.
“Trump has said the war was over 43 times and counting.”
Well, on the 44th round, Trump now understands.
Maybe the Iranian thugs will find round 45 or 47 to be most unpleasant.
Israel can take out Iran’s oil industry by proven Ukrainian tools - drones.
All the effort it takes from Trump is a phone call to Bibi.
I’ve lost count. When did you update?
What’s that I hear? Yup, there he goes again. 44 and counting.
When did he say it was over?
He openly supports Hitler and Nazi Germany.
Ukie Bot crawls out from under rock.
You’re really good at repeating the talking points.
You sound influenced.
I think the word you’re looking for is “informed” not “influenced.” E. Pluribus Unum Is one of the best posters on this board, and has been for many years. He’s just farther to the right than the average Freeper these days, and views things more on principles than partisanship. Thanks.
Blah blah blah.
Repeating verbatim what you hear on X isn’t “informed.” It’s idiocy.
