‘Preemptive self-defense’: US strikes targets inside Iran

American military forces executed a series of preemptive, defensive airstrikes in southern Iran on Monday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed.

"US forces conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces," CENTCOM spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins told Fox News.

He added, “Targets included missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to emplace mines. US Central Command continues to defend our forces while using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire."

The American confirmation followed a wave of reports across state-controlled Iranian media networks. Tehran's press outlets initially reported that a pair of naval vessels belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had been targeted and bombed by American fighter jets during an active deployment in the strategic waters of the Persian Gulf.

According to those Iranian accounts, the targeted tactical engagement resulted in the deaths of four IRGC Navy operatives.

Other reports on Monday night indicated a series of explosions in the port city of Bandar Abbas.

The incident comes despite the ceasefire announced by the US in Iran and amid the ongoing contacts between the sides on a deal to end Iran’s nuclear aspirations.

It’s a “restraint fire”, it’s not ungood!

The only way to peace over there is to glassify it. It’s been that way since before Jimma Carter. It’s the truth or we wait to let God sort it out. Not great but there it is. IMO

Glassifying a country of 90 million, the size of California, and with a myriad of ethnic and religious minorities who keenly hate the IRGC and many of whom love the US of A and Israel, is not an option.

Same with Lebanon and its Druze and Christians.

No. The mad mullahs started this war in 1979. We wake up and take notice of it from time to time, but the ayatollahs have always operated on the assumption that, in the end, we would always flinch before finishing it.

It looked for a moment like Trump was ready to finish it. But he flinched too.

Now we’re on again, off again.

I totally agree. So I vote we contain as best we can and let God sort it out. I can’t see any quick fix. This is above our pay grade I’m afraid. Regards

“The mad mullahs started this war in 1979.”

That could be “almost’ be reasonably argued.
47 year legitimate reason to start this war?

That prowar mantra is exactly the same illogic as the Islamist terrorist expression of nakba since 1948.
78 year legitimate reason for their terrorism?

That's very true but arming the kurds and letting them take out the irgc is a very good option.

Even if the Turks don't like it,too bad for a phony ally. Erdogan will desert us in a heartbeat.

The Turks are already in Iran. All they need is arms to get the job done. The Peshmerga have an excellent rep for getting the job done.

https://www.iransafar.co/iran-ethnic-groups/

Here's more about historic kurds and where they are located.

4 Kurds: Not only in the western part of the Iranian plateau, Kurds are scattered throughout a broader region of the Middle East and West Asia. This ethnic group is settled in southeastern Anatolia, the Zagros Mountains of western Iran, and portions of northern Iraq, northeastern Syria, western Armenia, and other adjacent areas. A sizable noncontiguous Kurdish population also exists in the Khorāsān region, situated in Iran's northeast.

Iran's Kurds live mostly along the Zagros Mountains, from the south of Baku in Azerbaijan to northern Lorestan and Khuzestan regions. They consist of different tribes such as Mangour, Jalai, Milan, and Ghara papaghi. Some migrating nomad Kurd tribes also exist around cities of Saqez, Sanandaj and Kermanshah. The most famous Kurdish nomads are the Sanjabi tribe around Kermanshah, the Kalhor tribe south of Kermanshah.

The Kurdish Language

The Kurdish language is a member of the Western Iranian branch of Indo-European languages. It is related to Persian and Pashto and is spoken in parts of Iraq, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Kazakstan and Afghanistan. According to 2010 statistics, about 25 million people spoke Kurdish.

California, 423,970 sq. km.

Iran, 1,648,195 sq. km.

You are correct. My bad. A lot of it is uninhabitable salt barrens, I’ve heard. But how much of California is uninhabitable, too, including a lot of LA.
