Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) on Sunday criticized Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), whom President Trump endorsed over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in the Senate GOP runoff in the Lone Star State.
“He is a failure. He doesn’t deserve to be in the U.S. Senate,” Tillis told host Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Trump on Tuesday endorsed Paxton, a firebrand conservative who filed litigation in support of the president’s push to overturn the 2020 election. In endorsing the Texas attorney general over a four-term senator, Trump said Paxton “is a true MAGA warrior” and Cornyn, while a “good man,” was “not supportive of me when times were tough.”
In May 2023, Cornyn said that Trump’s “time has passed him by” amid the latter’s third, ultimately successful, bid for the Oval Office.
Early voting in the Cornyn-Paxton runoff ended on Friday, with Tuesday marking the final day to cast a ballot in a race that has sharply divided conservatives in Texas. While Cornyn finished ahead of Paxton by roughly 1.5 points in the March primary, a poll that the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs conducted from April 28 to May 1 found that the challenger held a 48 percent to 45 percent edge.

The statement idiotic. Paxton has been a very successful AG. It shows what a shallow fool Tilis is. If you are going to critical of someone you need to have a substantial argument.
