When Killers Become Admired Icons: America’s Dangerous New Normal
Faith and Freedom ^ | 05/23/2026

Faith Facts

  • Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has attracted disturbing fan worship from Americans celebrating violence
  • Cultural critics warn of an emerging ‘assassination culture’ where murder is glamorized and political violence is normalized
  • The breakdown of shared moral values rooted in the sanctity of life threatens the foundation of civil society and democratic governance

The troubling case of Luigi Mangione has exposed a dark undercurrent in American culture that should alarm every person of faith and conscience. Accused of the cold-blooded murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan, Mangione has inexplicably become a folk hero to a disturbing number of Americans who celebrate his alleged act of violence.

What some commentators are calling an “assassination culture” has emerged, where murder is not condemned but glorified. Fans have dubbed themselves “Ghouls Next Door,” creating merchandise, social media fan pages, and even romantic fantasies about the accused killer.

Andrew Kolvet
@AndrewKolvet

What you're about to watch is two members of the "press" credentialed by Mayor Mamdani, openly endorsing the heinous and evil assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Ashley Rojas and Lena Weissbrot are their names, and they deserve to be famous:

Rojas: "I'm saying f*** Brian Thompson. I don't give a flying f*** he died."

Weissbrot: "His children are better off without him. They need to learn to not be like their dad, and enjoy the blood money ... I liked [his murder]."

Rojas and Weissbrot accuse Brian Thompson of being guilty of "mass social murder" a 19th century term coined by Karl Marx's co-conspirator Fredrich Engels and recently referenced by Hasan Piker to the NYT.

They compare the assassination of Thompson to the killing of Osama Bin Laden and call it "heroic violence."

Assassination culture is rising on the left and is continuing to be mainstreamed and condoned by leftwing political figures like Zohran Mamdani.

Truly grotesque, evil, and disturbing.

This represents more than poor taste or misguided sympathy. It signals a fundamental breakdown in the moral framework that has historically united Americans across political differences—the sacred belief that human life, created in the image of God, is inherently valuable and must be protected.

The rise of this disturbing phenomenon makes genuine political dialogue nearly impossible. How can a society function when segments of the population celebrate extrajudicial killing as a legitimate form of political expression? The answer is simple: it cannot.

“It’s hard to create any kind of compromise or carry on ‘normal’ politics with people who have such a mentality,” observers note, highlighting the civilizational stakes of this cultural moment.

For Christians and conservatives who believe in the rule of law, due process, and the biblical command “thou shalt not murder,” this trend represents an existential threat to ordered liberty. When violence becomes entertainment and killers become celebrities, the guardrails that protect civilization from descending into chaos are removed.

The Mangione case is not occurring in isolation. It follows years of increasing political violence and rhetoric that dehumanizes opponents and justifies extreme action. Whether directed at corporate executives, political figures, or ordinary citizens with differing views, the normalization of violence corrodes the civic trust necessary for a free society to function.

America’s founders understood that self-government requires a moral people. John Adams famously wrote that the Constitution was “made only for a moral and religious people” and is “wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” When the moral consensus that condemns murder dissolves, constitutional government itself is imperiled.

The solution must begin with a renewed commitment to the inherent dignity of every human life and the principle that differences—even profound ones—must be resolved through peaceful, lawful means. Churches, families, and communities must actively teach these foundational truths to a generation increasingly disconnected from them.

Justice for Brian Thompson and his family requires a legal system that functions properly, not mob adulation for his alleged killer. The future of American democracy depends on rejecting assassination culture and reaffirming the timeless moral truths that make civilization possible.

God sees this. God knows all.

Someday these ghouls will stand before their Maker.

I guess it’s outdated now but in the ‘60s those three would be called skanks.

Look no further than the “Manson family” girls to see the trend is not really new. They not only smilingly killed for Manson, they disrupted the court trials and threatened witnesses and prosecutors.

Yes, Leslie Van Houten was paroled and released from the California Institution for Women on July 11, 2023. Her release came after a state appeals court ruled in her favor, and Gov. Gavin Newsom declined to further block the decision.

And Patricia Krenwinkel has reached the record for California’s longest-serving female inmate. She has been recommended for parole multiple times by the parole board, most recently in 2025, but the grants have been repeatedly overturned by Governor Newsom. She remains incarcerated.

“This attraction is recognized in psychology and sociology as hybristophilia, a paraphilia where an individual is sexually interested in and attracted to people who commit crimes.”
—Wikipedia.

One is Danielle Steele, author of books selling over 1 Billion copies worldwide. She married a man in prison with the ceremony in the prison canteen in 1975. Danny Zugelder serving time for robbery and sexual assault. She fell in love with him meeting him in prison and he was released in 1973 and moved in with her but he was arrested on new charges shortly thereafter and went back to prison which was why the marriage ceremony had to take place there.

Here’s the interesting Wikipedia article on women with hybristophilia.

You can go back earlier than that.

In the Depression, Dillinger and Bonnie and Clyde were also glamorized and seen as “Robin Hood” anti-heroes.

And even earlier than that, Jesse James and John Brown (although that was more political)

That freaked me out because I thought that was the bodice-ripper writer who lives locally but it turns out that local writer is Nora Roberts.

They both write trash.

Look at all the love the Left gave to this crook who died from an overdose of Fentanyl. The police office who was railroaded is still in jail.

"America's Dangerous New Normal"

They may be dangerous but these "Ghouls Next Door" are anything but normal. The author(s) of the article should've thought twice before going with such an outrageous headline.

This is nothing new it’s been going on as long as recorded human history — people expressing sexual, romantic, or sympathetic attraction to killers appears in ancient myths, classical literature, and historical records through to today.

We are becoming a mishmash of disgusting violent Africa missed with the insanity of narco South America and Mexico. Ever since Obama there has been a mad dash to adopt cool diverse African and Muslim culture. Biden brought in the narcos from South of the border. Media has glamorized all of it. It is a bleak future for formerly white Christian nations. A bowl of milk does not purify a turd. It becomes a bowl of feces.

RE: Bonnie and Clyde, John Dillinger… there has to be a few others

Well, over a hundred years ago, there were Billy the Kid and Jesse James. Both had admirers, and in fact were actively romanticized even while they were alive. People with warped sense of morality exist in every century.

Poland is doomed. The colleges and schools are all run by German trained feminazis. When I lived there hordes of blue haired feminists would take over the Stalin center screaming for abortion and migrants “rights” (aka African Muslims to get on welfare. Many mudsharks there). And they would block the bridge over the Oder river to protest whatever the cause of the day was. In another generation it will be like Berlin is today. A dirty african muslim s hole while the new generation of native Poles abort their future.

What you say is true, but I would argue that this 21st century is different.

That warped sense of morality that you mentioned is being promulgated and encouraged by a totally rotten public school system and in the case of the three mentioned in the article I would assume by an elite private school system.
