WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Friday that the global risk from the disease remained low. The World Health Organization has raised its public health risk from the Ebola outbreak from "high" to "very high" in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In an update on Friday, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the agency, said 82 cases had so far been confirmed in the country, with seven confirmed deaths.
"But we know the epidemic in the DRC is much larger," Ghebreyesus said, adding that there were around 750 suspected cases and 177 suspected deaths.
The Director-General said the global risk from the disease remained low.
The outbreak has been caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, which has no proven vaccine. It has also spread into neighbouring Uganda, where two cases have been confirmed and one death.
A US national who had been working in the DRC has been confirmed to have contracted the disease and was transferred to Charité hospital in Berlin for treatment earlier this week.
The hospital said on Friday that the man was "severely weakened" but was not critically ill.
"Because the course of the illness can change, he remains under close observation and is receiving treatment. He is being cared for in the high-security area of the specialized isolation unit," it said.
Tedros said the WHO was also aware of reports that another US national deemed to be a high-risk contact had been transferred to the Czech Republic.
In the Netherlands, Radboud University Hospital said Friday that it had admitted a patient with a "low suspicion" of Ebola and had put them in isolation pending the result of diagnostic tests.
Ebola is a severe and deadly illness first identified in 1976. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, up to 90% of cases of Ebola are fatal. Symptoms can include fever, weakness, diarrhea and vomiting.

It does seem like this outbreak could potentially be worse than they usually are, the people at risk over there just can’t seem to be made to understand how Ebola spreads amongst them.
I wonder... Why were there so few covid deaths in Africa?
Hardly any of the African population got one covid shot, and none of them got the multitude of shots offered in western countries.
Maybe because they take ivermectin for parasites, and certain other medications to prevent diseases there?
Then lock down the Congo, DUH!!
For sure...no incoming...They go through this all the time. They know it’s the filth that makes these diseases thrive.
There should be a sign posted at every airport gate for flights departing for central Africa:

Regards,
AUSTRALIA was being overrun by a rabbit population explosion. Myxoma virus is introduced in 1950 to kill them . At first it works , killing 90% of the rabbits. But then evolution happens. The surviving rabbits acquire a resistance to the virus, and the virus itself becomes less lethal!
Let’s see, so far this tear: bird flu, hantavirus, ebola, disease-carrying ticks. Somethings gotta stick.
I do not have Ebola.
LOL
It is just news on another outbreak of Ebola, do you think it is fake?
Message to the natives: If y’all could stop dancing with corpses that would be cool.
Ebola is actually difficult to get. It’s pretty easy to control. These idiots ignore all that.
Their immune systems are in much better shape than they are in the west. You either have a robust immune system or you die.
Just don’t let the absolute moron, Fauci style Docs bring the infected Congolese here to “expand our wealth of knowledge of Ebola”.
Post C19 this will be much more difficult.
Hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial & a lot of people are on it in Africa, or so I heard. Ivermectin is used to treat ‘river blindness’ there as well. Between the two, it probably made a difference.
“I wonder... Why were there so few covid deaths in Africa?”
We really have no idea how many people died from COVID in Africa. Outside of some small population centers, very little COVID tracking was performed. In many 3rd world countries, once you get out of the cities, if you die, you die and nobody bothers to find out why.
Even with Ebola, often it kills a lot of people before the disease spreads to a point where health authorities notice it.
Quarantines are effective only if used in the initial outbreak. Jet travel is a delivery system where it will be global in hours.
