The internet is forever, people warn. But leading newspaper companies could change that in a burgeoning war against artificial intelligence chatbots.
More than 340 national and local news publishers, from The New York Times to The Idaho Statesman, have blocked the Wayback Machine from archiving their stories due to concerns their proprietary content could get gobbled up by Big Tech companies to train AI tools like ChatGPT.
That’s according to a new analysis by the Nieman Journalism Lab at Harvard University, which first reported that leading publishers across the U.S. have cut off access to the digital tool designed to preserve a historic record of the internet in the public interest.
There’s no evidence tech companies are training AI models with archives from the Wayback Machine, which the nonprofit Internet Archive launched 30 years ago, and has since cataloged more than a trillion web pages. But the digital library is routinely used by historians, researchers and journalists — some of whom are now petitioning their employers to allow the Wayback Machine to preserve their work.
“The Internet Archive is a national treasure,” Rachel Maddow, the MS Now host and progressive commentator, wrote in an online petition that has been signed by more than 200 journalists nationwide. “I use it daily, and have for many, many years. I cannot imagine doing the work I do without it.”

They are blocking the "way back machine" so they can continue to publish false information and gas light the world and then remove it from the internet and not have any evidence afterwards..
In fact, I wouldn't put it past these Devil Worshipin, Satanic Inspired, Kommunists to write/rewrite history and back date their articles to erase history....See "The New York Times"
I think your are correct. They will GAS LIGHT us!!!

Cankles greatly relieved.
I subscribe to newspapers.com. It’s a great resource.
More than 340 newspapers block the Wayback Machine.
Conputer crashes ensue last sign to much data?.
It’s all in line with the commie concept of “Day Zero”.
You don’t need to know anything that’s happened before.
It was ALL wrong and you only need concern yourself what WE tell you NOW.
There are still newspapers? Who knew?
Good thing nobody much pays any attention to what these lying morons put out in the first place.
The Future Is Certain, it’s the Past that’s always Changing
The future’s uncertain, and the end is always near.
I was explaining to my niece just 2 days ago that the reason they need large data centers is because thru the years the main stream media has published mostly false and misleading information that the internet as it is now is useless for any information gathering. The data centers need to collect and maintain real information uncorrupted from the publishing people.
“Data Center” sounds generic and benign. “Surveillance Hub” sounds much nicer. Whatever they are for can’t be good, basically. Bad enough they are willing to ignore 35 years of relentless “Global Warming” programming and start dusting off coal plants building new nuclear power plants.
They do not want people to be able to look up what they have written in the past.
How they have lied, contradicted themselves, manipulated etc…
When FR started we posted entire articles so that we would not be presenting anything out of context or otherwise being dishonest, disingenuous etc…So it was all on record.
Until they sued Jim Robinson.
Easy fix? Download a version every day and post it somewhere.
Remember when there were articles and information about Obama (being born in Kenya) that were scrubbed from the way back machine?
(I didn’t think it would ever be altered until that happened. I think it opened a lot of eyes to those paying attention.)
We used to have a daily WWII thread here with articles from the New York Times, I believe they are still available if you search for them.
Zactly.....
