Ted Cruz says GOP senators were ‘screaming’ at Todd Blanche during ‘anti-weaponization’ fund briefing

Screaming, yelling and accusations of self-dealing.

That’s how Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Friday described a closed-door meeting with Senate Republicans and acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on the Trump administration’s $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund that’s drawn bipartisan opposition.

On his podcast “Verdict with Ted Cruz,” the Texas senator described the meeting as “one of the roughest meetings I’ve seen in my entire time in the Senate.”

“Fiery does not begin to cut it,” Cruz said. “My guess is there’re probably 45 senators in the room, at least half of them were blasting the attorney general, and they were pissed.”

Senate Republicans met with Blanche on Thursday to discuss the fund, which ultimately derailed a vote on a Republican bill to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol, NBC News previously reported.

Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., called the fund a “payout pot for punks,” referencing the fact that the Trump administration had not ruled out the possibility that people convicted of participating in the Jan. 6 riot could be compensated by the fund.

That's what my senator thinks of me.

Figures... Not a peep out of the limp-wristed pukes while the actual weaponization was occuring. Worthless POS GOP.

Yes, it figures. I’m so disgusted with the R’s. They only get my support because the D’s are so much worse.

> It is time for a new political party. <

Very, very true. The problem (and it’s a big one) is that modern political parties run on cash, huge amounts of cash.

Any new party that cannot attract billions of donor dollars will have a difficult time of it.
🙁

Fun fact: The Republican Party spent $16 billion on all races in 2024.

Yet, these whiney beeotches gave themselves how much? $500K each, for their cell phones being targeted?

Pathetic, lifelong DC grifters, living in their own bubble and completely out of touch with reality and their constituents.

What do they think about the “punks” in the Capitol Police force that opened the doors to let the J6 folks in? Calls for terminations? Jail?

And what do they think of payouts for other settlements like the couple million given to Peter Strzok when he sued over his termination?

They don’t want a fund from Trump’s settlement to be used for this purpose? Fine. Let the money come out of their own pocketbooks then.

They seem to be in denial about the damage their own government has done - and that their stupid “politics” dance allowed. Somebody outside of them has to expose the full scheme of weaponization and what it has done. Show the full poopy hairy butt in all its glory so they can’t deny how disgusting it is. And THEN let them scream about the government having to pay for its own crimes.

“the notion of the federal government doling out compensation to rioters” is “absurd and offensive.”

I don’t know if any was from the federal government, but how much was paid out to BLM and antifa rioters because the police used teargas and other riot control methods in response to them spending the summer burning cities? With the urging and support of Democrat elected officials.

“Punks”? I guess Tillis is unwilling to look at the facts about J6 prisoners and what they experienced and ignore hard facts about nefarious people involved who were not prosecuted. Truth is irrelevant to Tommy. He is either the dumbest human to inhabit earth or the most corrupt. Syonara.

Senators behave like this bec the People and individual States have no recourse!
What We The People can do is repeal the Constitution’s 17th Amendment – popular vote election for Senators.
Prior to the 17th, the individual States, either the Governor or State House and/or State Senate selected your 2 Senators AND the State’s had immediate RECALL authority as outlined in the State’s Constitution.
Today a Senator is accountable to no one but their next election. 17th Amendment has no RECALL provision for Senators. That was no accident!!!
Adding, changing or repealing a Constitutional Amendment is a long torturous path to success.
Especially one affecting any CongressCritters bec Senators and US House Reps alike will feel threatened by the loss of power. Senators need to be accountable to someone other than themselves n their next election - but IMHO the repeal of the 17th is an absolute necessity.
Also, I’ve never actually checked, but I’ve read that every State still has the language in their State Constitution for Senator selection and recall should the 17th get repealed.
