Senate Republican demands Trump ‘finish what we started’ in Iran

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, called Friday for the US to resume strikes on Iran to “finish what we started” — as Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said it was unclear whether a deal was possible even “over weeks or months.”

“We are at a moment that will define President Trump’s legacy,” Wicker said in a statement. “His instincts have been to finish the job he started in Iran, but he is being ill-advised to pursue a deal that would not be worth the paper it is written on.”

The 74-year-old further criticized current diplomatic efforts to secure a deal with Iran — as both Pakistani and Qatari officials engaged in a now-or-never push to get Iran to sign an agreement with the US to restart talks.

If we walk away from this one and leave the Gulf States without protection from the IRGC monster, we'll have no more friends or allies in the world.

Even Japan and Korea will begin to hedge their bets.

Wicker is correct in his admonishment of POTUS, which has been showing real weakness when possessing all cards (US Military Services).

It's a National Tragedy.

Wicker is correct. This has gone on long enough. Start with bombing a bridge and power plant each day.

Trump always has preferred diplomacy. He and other players are putting their finishing touches on the military mission.

Do it, President Trump. Annihilate the IRGC and their proxies now.

Trump better hope that Iran doesn't manage a significant attack resulting in a lot of casualties. Even a good number of his supporters will turn on him if that happens.

Trump believes in giving the enemy a chance to ‘save face’, that’s his weakness.

I know I'm no expert, but Iran will stall forever if they can. They now added a new demand which is a "toll" for every ship that passes through the straight. If they are granted that, they will then add something new to the list and the dance goes on ad nauseum. If it were me, I'd let the IDF take Kharg Island, with the intent to close it, not destroy it, which shuts down their ability to fund the war and terrorism. If the Iranian people vote for a regime change, reopening Kharg would give the new regime a way to fund reconstruction, perhaps winning the peoples' trust. I think that's a win-win for the Iranian people and the US.

I’m hopeful it will happen this weekend, since Trump has said he can’t attend Jr.’s wedding, and canceled another event.

I was thinking that this morning, then Vince Coglianese also mentioned at the end of his show today.

Iran shouldn’t have started the war in 1979 when they invaded our embassy.

I think the time for diplomacy is over. Iran is just in stall mode and only a final massive ass kicking will finish this.

Nobody else, especially the gulf states now or in the future can claim the United States is thoughtless in our use of force. We have done the statesman dance for 45 out of 47 years with IRAN, another month of frustration is nothing compaired to the feeling in 1980. We have given a defeated power time to accept that they have very little air cover, very little in blue water power, very little in external supporters rallying to their cause. I know it is hard to hear, but a consensus of the gulf states will make the phone call when they are done with the wait. Trump and the Beltway crowd are not the ones who are going to have to pick up IRAN, dust them off and begin again, the gulf states have to define their future without an IRAN threat.

What a stunning disappointment Trump is on this war with Iran. Who would have ever believed he would quit in mid stream just when they were being blown off the map and allow them to recover and continue their evil ways? How many Americans will die now if he resumes after allowing Iran to rearm, refit, move resources and secure senior leaders? What a disaster this is becoming very fast.

What agenda? Trump's mercurial nature has led him to changing his mind on his priorities for the past six months. He's displaying an inability to focus, particularly when he launches personal attacks on nobodies like Colbert.

He's the bleeping President of the United States!
