Trump reportedly planning to limit US military resources for NATO allies in Europe during crises

The Trump administration is planning to tell NATO allies this week that it will shrink the pool of military capabilities that the US would have available to assist the alliance’s European nations in a major crisis, three sources familiar with the matter said.

Under a framework known as the NATO Force Model, the alliance’s member countries identify a pool of available forces that could be activated during a conflict or any other major crisis, such as a military attack on a NATO member.

While the precise composition of those wartime forces is a closely guarded secret, the Pentagon has decided to significantly scale down its commitment, said the sources, who requested anonymity to speak candidly about the plans.

Yes, Europe should provide more for its own defense.

I’m all for Europe caring its weight more fairly, but NATO has been a very successful alliance and I’m having a hard time with the level of animosity on both sides.

Europe has stabbed the US taxpayer many many many times. They have expected the US to fund their military and protect themselves while they brag about their social programs being better than the US that they raided military budgets to pay for.

They gave ZERO support to stop the number one terrorist nation and terrorist supporting nation, from becoming Nuclear.

Let them protect themselves from Middle east rockets, Vlad the Invader, and even from each other.

What? The US is only going to supply 90% instead of 95%?

Europe is made up of looters and moochers.

These countries blocked base access and even overflights during the Iran Operation, but they expect business as usual from the USA.

The only “success” NATO has had is the USA paying for defence for Canada and the EU.

I’m with you. In fact, let’s promise them twice as much help as they provided the U.S. to date in this Iran thing.

First term, they all agreed to pay more for defense. They did, for a year or two. Now they want to hold OUR bases over our heads.

FAFO

I’m not too happy about removal of troops from Poland, although I don’t know how many we have there to begin with. Spain, on the other hand, can go fly a kite. The fact is, if we didn’t have those overseas bases, we couldn’t do what we’ve done in Iran, not to mention other conflicts. Of course, I’m sure that’s fine with some people.

True, but the Europeans have a long history of starting dumb ass wars that get a lot of innocent people killed for no good reason except the ambition and vanity of corrupt, sociopathic leaders.

The current batch of European leaders are feckless morons who cannot be trusted with weapons any more lethal than dull butter knives and even that is a bit of a stretch.

There is some definite upside to having a disarmed EU led by wimpy pacifists totally dependent upon the US for defense.

Poland is one of the few countries that has ramped up their defense spending.

And frankly after what happened in 1939, they should know better than to rely on others for her security.
