'I'm not going to walk away,' insists Starmer as PM vows to 'fight the next election'

Sir Keir Starmer has vowed not to "walk away" from Number 10 and insisted that he will stay to "fight the next election".

The Prime Minister refused to set out a transition timetable on Monday amid mounting pressure, with growing suggestions that he could face Andy Burnham and Wes Streeting in any potential future leadership battle.

Asked if his time as prime minister had effectively come to an end, Starmer said: "No, we've got a lot of work to do.

"I'm very focused on what I consider to be my responsibility, my duty, and that is to the country."

It comes after the prime minister backed Labour’s Makerfield by-election candidate “100%” despite leadership hopeful Andy Burnham priming himself to stand in the race.

The PM vowed to support the contender “whoever they are” to see off the threat from Nigel Farage’s Reform UK as he met staff at party headquarters on Monday morning.

He’s as incompetent and annoying as Tim Walz.

The UK’s Tim Walz.

The Restore Britain party has announced its candidate in the Makerfield parliamentary by-election.

The party, which was created by Great Yarmouth MP Rupert Lowe in February after he left Reform UK, is the first to confirm a candidate.

I wonder, how long it will take Starmer to finally realize that he’s burying his party deeper and deeper in the ground by clinging to the prime minister’s post? Maybe it’s time to heed the calls of the public and his own party members and resign, to give the Labour Party at least some chance of recovery?

Wouldn't it be great if this thing triggers what the Brits call a “general election”...which means a vote for Prime Minister. If that happens Farage just might become PM. But given the large majority that the Maoists have it's not likely.

Keir Starmer doesn’t serve Britain or his party, he serves the WEF, the Davos crowd and the EU. Their needs are all that matter.

That Obama and Tony Blair both approve of him is all the backing strength he requires.
