Fury as Trump gets $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded payout from his own government: 'Stunning act of corruption'

'The machinery of government should never be weaponized against any American, and it is this Department's intention to make right the wrongs that were previously done while ensuring this never happens again,' said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.

'As part of this settlement, we are setting up a lawful process for victims of lawfare and weaponization to be heard and seek redress.'

Donald Trump has reached a $1.8 billion deal with the IRS to dispense taxpayer funds to victims of 'lawfare' as part of a settlement in his case against the government.

The President, his sons Don Jr and Eric, and the Trump Organization filed suit against the Treasury and IRS in the Southern District of Florida federal court after the leak of their tax returns.

They agreed to drop their suit, as well as two claims, including for damages resulting from the raid on Mar-a-Lago in 2022 and the Russian election interference probe.

While Trump is barred from directly receiving payments from the fund, entities associated with him are not explicitly prohibited from filing additional ones.

The settlement sparked outrage from Democrats, including Ron Wyden

'Even by his standards, the move he's trying to get away with now is a stunning act of corruption,' said Wyden.

'What Trump wants is a $1.7billion slush fund for right-wing political violence and subversion, and if he follows through, it will be the most brazen theft and abuse of taxpayer dollars by any president in American history.'

The $1.776 billion fund will have the power to issue formal apologies and monetary relief owed to claimants, including Trump's political allies and the 1,600 January 6 defendants. The fund will consist of a commission of five members appointed by the Attorney General, with Trump given the power to remove any member.

DON’T BLAME me for the title. Eric and Don Jr get compensated, they had Federale investigations targeting them for *whatever* the Dems lawfare artists concocted. The Jan 6th victims get some compensation. Many got a full prosecution, some got less.

It shouldn't just be a payout. Every government employee behind those crimes needs to have assets seized, including pensions, future wages garnished, etc.

They committed crimes instead of doing their jobs and the taxpayer gets screwed.

In this case yes. People are getting made whole for scurrilous corrupt-o-Crat lawfare.

The only “fury” that should be involved here is fury at the fact that someone was able to access personal tax information and spread it far and wide over the internet.

The corrupt see corruption everywhere, in acts of accountability, in acts of directed compensation for malfeasance by a government agency, in justice delivered. They just don’t see any corruption they or their cohort are involved in.

I don’t necessarily agree with this fund, but at the same time, the ‘corruption’ would have been the events that led up to this fund being established (lawfare, abuse of power to target political opponents by the prior administrations, etc.), not the establishment of the fund itself.

This seems reasonable to me. Or are we supposed to be outraged that people who were unfairly or illegally targeted by the Biden DOJ are now made whole?

Sorry, not outraged. My outrage extends only to the dirtbags in the Biden admin who made this payout possible.
