Nancy Pelosi Breaks Silence on SF Race to Replace Her — Gushing Over Lefty Pol Who’s Trailing Badly in Polls
New York Post ^ | May 11, 2026 | Annie Gaus

San Francisco Rep. Nancy Pelosi has finally weighed in on potential heirs to her nearly 40-year reign in Congress — giving a nod to a left-wing pol who’s trailing badly in polls.

The longtime San Francisco rep and former House speaker lavished praise on Connie Chan, a member of the Board of Supervisors representing west side neighborhoods — though she stopped short of making an official endorsement.

“She’d be a great member of Congress,” Pelosi said in a rare interview Thursday, per the San Francisco Standard. The powerful Den said it’d be “very exciting” to send an Asian American congressional rep to Congress for the first time in the city’s history. (San Francisco is roughly one-third Asian American.)

Polls show Chan — a union favorite who’s endorsed by Sen. Adam Schiff, SEIU California and the San Francisco Labor Council — competing for second place with tech millionaire Saikat Chakrabarti, who’s spent some $5 million of his own money on the race.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

Can someone explain to me why Connie Chan would be the first Asian American congressional rep, but Saikat Chakrabarti wouldn't be the first Asian American congressional rep ?

I think you are confused. San Francisco has never had a congressional rep that was Asian. But there have been many Asians in the Senate and Congress, just not representing San Francisco.

The first Asian in the Senate was Hiram Fong, a Republican. California also had an Asian senator that was a Republican, before Kamala Harris, who is a Democrat.

When Kamala Harris was in San Francisco, she was District Atorney, she never ran for Congress.

I believe William Henry Harrison’s wife was born in China to missionary parents. And, I believe they both spoke Chinese. Would she be the first Asian American First Lady?

Asian Mayor Wang Admits Acting as Foreign Agent for China
New York Post ^ | May 11, 2026 | Joe Burn and Ben Chapman
Posted on 5/11/2026, 2:47:37 PM by nickcarraway

The former mayor of Arcadia resigned after admitting to acting as an illegal foreign agent of China in a federal plea deal unsealed on Monday. Eileen Wang agreed with prosecutors that she worked with the People’s Republic of China to boost propaganda with a fake news website on US soil between 2020 and 2022. She was elected to Arcadia City Council in November 2022. The city is within LA County.

Wang pled guilty to the federal charge at her arraignment in downtown Los Angeles on Monday afternoon. She faces a maximum of 10 years in prison. LA’s top federal prosecutor Bill Essayli said this is not the first time China has been caught trying to exert its influence in the United States.

The other Asian running, Saikat Chakrabarti, is a former chief of staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a 2026 congressional candidate.

He has faced allegations and scrutiny regarding his financial and campaign activities.

A complaint was filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) by the National Legal and Policy Center alleging that Chakrabarti and Ocasio-Cortez improperly moved over \(\$800,000\) in contributions from campaign committees to an LLC controlled by him.

Mortgage/Occupancy Allegations (2025-2026): During his 2026 campaign for Congress in California, critics alleged he committed mortgage or occupancy fraud by listing a home in Maryland as his primary residence for several years while actually residing elsewhere, a charge discussed in local San Francisco media and on Reddit.

Chakrabarti has denied wrongdoing regarding the campaign finances, asserting the actions were transparent.

3 truly awful choices. I didn’t think it could get any worse than Nancy but SF has outdone itself.

Well the voters will get what they deserve.

AOC ex-aide, Saikat Chakrabarti, running for Congress, became a millionaire primarily by serving as an early employee and founding engineer at the payment processing company “Stripe.”

His equity in the company is valued at over $50 million, and he has described his financial success as winning the “startup lottery”.

Graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science in 2007. Worked at Bridgewater Associates before spending six years in Silicon Valley, which included co-founding a web design company named Mockingbird. Joined Stripe in its early days, playing a critical role in product development, which resulted in significant wealth via company stock.

Financial disclosures suggest a net worth in the tens of millions, with some estimates placing it as high as $176 million.

After his success in tech, Chakrabarti shifted to politics, working as the technology director for Bernie Sanders’ 2016 campaign, and later, as the first campaign manager and Chief of Staff for Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

As of 2026, he has been using his personal fortune to fund his campaign for Congress in San Francisco.

American politics at every level was never meant to be a career position. As long as the people allow it, it will never change.

The favorite to win Peloi’s seat is state senator Scott Weiner. He grew up in a rural NJ town where his parents helped found a synagogue. He has served as a Co-Chair of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus.

He frequently notes that his Jewish values guide his approach to housing, social justice, and international issues, including his recent, critical perspectives on the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza.

In January 2026, Weiner was forced out of his leadership position in the state’s Legislative Jewish Caucus following his public remarks calling Israel’s actions in Gaza a “genocide,” a position that drew sharp criticism from some local Jewish organizations.
