Experts warn Trump administration any Iran deal must close plutonium pathway to nuclear bombs Expert warns Iran has enough plutonium to produce more than 200 nuclear bombs

Nuclear weapons experts are raising the alarm bells over the pressing need for the Trump administration to codify in any new deal a ban on Iran’s attempts to use plutonium from its facilities to build an atomic bomb.

The administration and non-proliferation experts have largely focused on the Islamic Republic’s atomic weapons facilities that use uranium as the material for building nuclear bombs. Tehran could take advantage of this blind spot and covertly build a plutonium-based nuclear weapon.

Jason Brodsky, policy director at United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), told Fox News Digital: "I do believe any proposed deal with Iran needs to address the plutonium pathway to nuclear weapons. Israel struck the Arak heavy water reactor twice over the last year — in June 2025 and in March 2026. Intelligence suggested Iran had repeatedly attempted to reconstruct the facility even after the bombing, so any deal with Iran should cover the plutonium pathway."

Iran’s regime could use plutonium from spent fuel at its nuclear reactor at Bushehr to build an atomic weapons device, according to Henry Sokolski, the executive director of the Nonproliferation Policy Education Center and former deputy for nonproliferation policy in the Department of Defense (1989–1993).

Trump needs to issue a Fatwa to declare Radioactive Elements and Compounds to be Haram, especially for those of the Shia persuasion.

Trump, Israel Say US Airstrike ‘Destroyed’ Crucial Nuclear Facility and Set Iran Back Years
The Epoch Times ^ | 6/25/2025 | Jack Phillips Breaking News Reporter

The White House refuted a leaked report that stated Iran’s nuclear capabilities were not totally destroyed in the U.S. airstrike.

President Donald Trump announced that Israeli officials believe the U.S. airstrike targeting an Iranian nuclear site over the weekend has made it “totally inoperable” and set the regime back for years.

“The devastating U.S. strike on Fordow destroyed the site’s critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility totally inoperable,” Trump told a NATO conference in the Netherlands, reading the statement from the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission

For those who don’t know, plutonium by itself doesn’t go boom-boom. It needs hi-grade uranium to set it off.

Fission bomb, uranium only.

Fusion bomb, uranium plus plutonium.

If the IRGC is left in charge of Iran they will have a nuclear weapons capability in short order supplied by China via North Korea

Iran ‘one week’ away from nuclear bomb warns ex-UN inspector as West braces for showdown
The Express ^

Iran could produce enough fuel for six nuclear bombs in just one month and even produce a single atomic bomb in as little as a week, a former UN inspector has warned, as fears of a growing regional conflict surge.

Weapons expert David Albright has issued out a sobering warning about the destructive potential of Iran’s arsenal, due to the country’s ability to produce large amounts of weapon-grade uranium.

I’m one of those who thinks that the Islamic regime that took over Iran turned it into a single minded, one direction nation, a Muslim version of North Korea except on steroids, because their goal isn’t isolated survival, it is defeating/destroying America, the Jews, and Western Civilization/Christendom, and getting the bomb puts them on the freeway to that goal by putting them off limits to a conventional war in the future.

Either we finish this now or the world will face a dismal future, with Israel being victimized in the beginning of earth shaking future events affecting far more than just Israel and the Middle East.

You are mistaken. The Fat Man bomb dropped on Nagasaki was a plutonium bomb. It was a fission bomb. Most US fission bombs are or were plutonium. Some boosted with deuterium and tritium in the core.

If Iran has just one nuclear bomb they would have used it.

No need to put it on a missile, a shipping container would be sufficient.

At present Iran does not have the technology to make an implosion plutonium weapon but apparently have the plutonium in spent fuel rods of nuclear reactors, if what is being said is true. The technology for an Uranium 235 bomb is very simple. Your local library has this information. The one we dropped on Japan was basically an artillary barrel with two sub critical masses fired into the other with a high energy neutron source to kick off the chain reaction. Implosion thermonuclear weapons are not easy. North Korea has mastered this.

North Korea does have this technological expertise. Iran and North Korea have been close for many years.

Oddly we tested our plutonium weapon in New Mexico first. We did not know if it would work. It did. We did not test the Uranium 235 weapon. We knew it would work.

That’s not really a true statement. Both of the bombs dropped on Japan were fission bombs. One was plutonium and the other was uranium. To get to an H-bomb you have to add some other things which I won’t detail. The fission explosion sets off the thermonuclear explosion.

I very much doubt Iran has enough plutonium for even one bomb.

From media reports, I estimate Iran could make about 10 uranium bombs. The timeframe would be in the region of weeks. The time estimate varies as making more bombs would require more care, testing and time.

The plutonium pathway used by North Korea must be closed off. That means no nuclear reactors. With low-cost solar panels, sunny Iran has no economic reason to go nuclear.

I estimate Ukraine could make several plutonium bombs if the Russians would sit back and let them.

Incorrect. The only role uranium plays in a plutonium bomb is when it is used as fuel in a nuclear reactor, producing plutonium through a 2 stage decay process. The plutonium is imploded by conventional explosives.

Iran has plenty of spent nuclear fuel. They just have to reprocess that spent fuel into weapons grade plutonium. As far as I know Iran doesn’t currently have a plutonium reprocessing program. With help from their allies, that could be overcome pretty quickly. Without help, maybe a couple years.

I very much doubt Iran has enough plutonium for even one bomb.

They already have enough spent fuel to make hundreds of plutonium bombs. According to IAEA, spent fuel with about 2100 kg of plutonium. They don't yet have a reprocessing program to make weapons grade plutonium. If we want to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, taking possession of that spent fuel is required. Under previous agreements, the spent fuel was supposed to go back to Russia.

The scariest thing about what Iran will do within 2 days of getting a bomb, will be to do to the rest of NYC what two planes did to the World Trade Center...

There are now millions of moslems in this country who, like the huge crowds of Brooklyn moslems did as the Towers were struck, gather and cheer as a nuke destroys much of NYC...

Even the Mandamis of NYC would gladly shout Allahu Ackar with joy, even as they are incinerated as well...

Oddly you are both correct and somewhat wrong. Plutonium will go boom by itself in an implosion weapon. The need for implosion is if they used a gun barrel device with two sub critical masses like the U235 bomb it would go critical but to quickly and be a fizzle and not a boom. Little of the mass would go fission.

Our most modern weapons are fission fusion fission using plutonium and uranium 238 not 235. They are incredible efficient and light weight. They are city killers.

Just one of our Boomer Subs (they carry most of our nuclear arsenal) can destroy any nation on earth. We have many Boomers. They are the most destructive force in the history of man, if unleashed.

It can hit you with 5 to 475 kilotons of energy, 5 kilotons will destroy a small area by design. 475 kilotons take out cities. 5 miles most residential buildings collapse and ignite. 3 miles total destruction. Just 3 of these weapons would destroy any major city in the world. We have many as does China and Russia.

The leaders of all nuclear nations are sane and wish not their destruction, even North Korea. The leaders of Iran are a death cult and not sane. They must never posses nuclear weapons.

I think China, Russia and N.Korea agree.
They’ve proven they will even fire on other muslim countries.
The death cult is psycho.
Unfortunately, so are their women and children.
