President Trump promised political payback last year when Indiana state senators from his own party voted down his plan to redraw the state’s congressional map to help Republicans.
On Tuesday, he got much of what he wanted, as at least five of the seven anti-redistricting Republicans facing Trump-backed challengers lost their primaries, according to The Associated Press. The results reflected Mr. Trump’s continuing sway over Republican voters and his ability to enforce political consequences for Republican officeholders who defy him.
In the other races, at least one incumbent won his primary and another race remained too close to call.
State legislative primaries are often low-drama affairs, but Mr. Trump’s involvement brought unusual levels of attention and outside spending. The president issued social media endorsements to the seven challengers and hosted some of them at the White House, while outside groups aligned with Mr. Trump poured money into the races.
As the challengers emphasized their ties to Mr. Trump, many of the incumbents focused on their own conservative credentials, as well as endorsements from groups supporting farmers, gun rights or abortion restrictions.
Rather than a contest between moderates and conservatives, the primaries became a test of how much deference Republicans owe Mr. Trump and how much control the president holds over rank-and-file voters.
“It’s not that anyone is less or more pro-life,” said Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith, a Republican redistricting supporter who backed most of the Trump-endorsed challengers. “It’s really that, do you understand the battle we are in, and do you understand the role Indiana plays in that battle on a national stage?”
State Senator Spencer Deery, one of the anti-redistricting incumbents, described the election as a test of how much sway Washington policymakers and their allies have over state policymaking.

One of the six losers was the Mike Pence guy, Ken Buck.
Puck Fence!
If you are going to have a political party, then you should be doing everything you can to increase your party’s membership and win elections. If that means redistricting then do it. The Dems don’t have a problem in that regard. They do it with reckless abandon. The GOP better get with it or give it up.................
All’s fair in love, war and politics.
Messed with the BULL...
Great news, these punks needed to lose. Of course the “news” outlets made this about Trump but it wasn’t. They allied with the rats and stabbed us in the back. A bunch of worthless rino’s the lot if them.

Good. It’s important to eliminate, from the saboteurs in our midst, the ability to obstruct MAGA effectuation.

Good for Indiana. Now if we could only successfully do the same for the “RINO” Republicans in the Texas legislature who align themselves with the DemocRATS and share power with them.
Yeah the Texas House is a real problem. A lot of good legislation dies because of the rino/rat alliance.
In spite of all the things our state representatives are willing to spend money on,
redistricting wasn’t one of them. It will cost too much. I wonder, if they had known how many others wound up doing it before they voted no, would it have changed their minds.
This is good news. I don’t want Republicans in general to lose, but they need to help out when they can. Mostly I am glad that Trump has enough influence to make or break them when they are not helping.
In Indiana State Senate district 23, it is too close to call with 99% of the vote in — we have a 3 vote difference.
S. Deery 6,334 50.0% (incumbent)
P. Copenhaver 6,331 50.0% (Trump endorsed)
Indiana here. Voted by driving in the rain through heavy traffic.

We GOT the hell rid of our RINO saboteur! Useless piece of deep state ca-ca he was, too. It can be done with a concerted effort!
“A lot of good legislation dies because of the rino/rat alliance.”
We get that in Kansas too. They stopped the income tax elimination a few years back, wimped out on redistricting this year, and there was a movement to eliminate residential property taxes that will likely fail.
RINOcide. Good job, Indiana.
That kind of weak, soft, unilateral disarmament is what gets you beaten. It is also the exact opposite of what Republican voters wanted. What did they gain by deliberately sabotaging Republicans? RINOs like this are why Democrats have been successful in pushing their agenda - we have 5th columnists in the Republican party.
Well now several of them faced the voters and were chitcanned for their treachery. Not only are they gone, but with each purging of the slimy weasels from Republican ranks, other RINOs start to understand that if they do the bidding of the donor class against the interests of the voter class, they WILL be punished for it. Some of them will decide to stop betraying their own voters as a result.
The anti-redistrict fight was for nothing.
The supreme court found that you cannot gerrymander a district along racist lines.
It was about voters getting rid of the “career politicians” that are there to enrich themselves and their cronies at the expense of the voter .
They sent a medpssage , they are tired as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore .
