Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) said on Friday he will not require Georgia to redraw its congressional map before the midterm elections, taking the opposite stance of his Republican counterparts in other states.
The governor’s rationale is that because the state’s elections are already underway, he won’t cancel the May 19 primary.
His decision comes after Gov. Jeff Landry (R-LA) suspended six House primaries in Louisiana following a landmark Supreme Court decision that struck down race-based redistricting enabled by a section of the Voting Rights Act.

Kemp is deep state. So this is what he would do.
One of Trump’s most consequential mistakes by public insult was attacking Brian Kemp for reopening Georgia from Covid before Trump wanted it done. I did not understand why Trump was so negative in attacking him then and I still don’t. Kemp bears a grudge like no other politician I have ever heard of. It is possible that we have two Georgia Democrat senators which actually flipped the Senate for two years because of how Kemp handled that election and now he doesn’t want to redistrict.
Trump thinks he can publicly attack someone and then later bring them back into the fold, but it just doesn’t work with everyone. Trump has the best policies of any president in my lifetime, but he still doesn’t understand how public insults and attacks hurt him and thus us conservatives.
I can't stand the guy, but he's bound by GA law at this point point. Early voting began in that state (really stupid to have it this early) on April 27th, and you can't redistrict after voting has started.
What a snake. It certainly could be done, but it might help Trump. He can’t leave the governor’s mansion soon enough.

Once Kemp started to open up Georgia, DeSantis was confident enough to do the same in Florida.
