Police said Wednesday they had arrested a Jewish man suspected of assaulting a French nun in Jerusalem the previous day, saying they had a zero-tolerance policy on attacks against religious figures.
“The suspect, a 36-year-old male, was identified and subsequently arrested by police,” the force said in a statement, adding it viewed with “utmost severity” any violent act “driven by potentially racist motives and directed toward members of the clergy.”
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, the same day as the attack.
On Thursday, police released footage of the assault, which showed the suspect running up from behind the nun and shoving her to the ground.
The suspect, who is wearing the tzitzit Jewish ritual men’s undergarment, is then seen walking away before returning to kick the woman while she is still lying on the ground.
The man then scuffles briefly with a passerby, who appears to attempt to intervene in the assault.
Father Olivier Poquillon, director of Jerusalem’s French School of Biblical and Archaeological Research, told AFP the 48-year-old nun was a researcher at the institution and does not wish to speak publicly.
“Yesterday, around 5:45 p.m. (1445 GMT) … she felt someone come up behind her and throw her with full force onto a rock,” Poquillon said, describing Tuesday’s attack.
“While the sister was on the ground, the man began to kick her repeatedly,” he said.

Don’t think the Apostles hated themselves
Of course. And there are plenty of arseholes claiming to be Christian that hate the joooos. Robert Bowers comes to mind.
Yet we don’t apply sweeping generalizations about American Christians hating Jews because of some retarded POS like Bowers.

Jeez, these anti-Christian zealots must be insane. Don’t they realize they risk alienating some of their only friends in the world.
Such behavior is rare, but despicable - although this is the second such story we’ve heard in recent weeks. I think it’s worth pointing out the perpetrator, according to the article, was a member of an ultra-orthodox community. Many of these communities have radical interpretations of the Bible and even view the Israeli government as illegitimate and express hostility towards secular Jews in Israel and religious Jews who are not sufficiently pious - in their eyes.
They have been known to pelt IDF soldiers with rocks, refuse to serve in the military, and are all around pains in the asses. It doesn’t surprise me that they would turn their ire towards Christian targets as well.

Peter appealed to Caesar on the basis of his Roman citizenship (and to his own demise, it’s in the Book) but Paul and James, the first Bishop of Jerusalem were Martyred “because it pleased the Jews”.

It was Paul who appealed, not Peter, if you are referring to the account in the Book of Acts.
