Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has dramatically walked back his disparaging comments about Donald Trump, admitting he was wrong to call the President a 'buffoon'.
The polarizing NBA coach dabbled in his political views while also discussing his past, the modern NBA and where his future may lie in a wide-ranging interview with The New Yorker.
Kerr, rumored to be on the brink of leaving the Warriors this season, was asked about a no-holds-barred 'rant' he went on during a press conference the day after Trump was elected in 2016.
The coach, who has never been shy about his political beliefs, recalled: 'He was establishing this new tone of communication that we were going to have in this country. I was so disgusted that I didn't hold back.'
However, years later, Kerr admits that there may have been room for him to have more control over his feelings.
'I've learned that I need to be better in terms of representing our organization in a way that I could still let my feelings be known but not get too personal,' he admitted. 'I'm representing a large group of people.'
Kerr then noted how political communication has changed since Trump's election, but admits: 'I don't think it's all Trump's fault. I think it was happening before Trump: the forces in social media, the forces in our country, the division.'

'But calling the President a buffoon, I kind of regret that, even though I felt it in my heart. It's better to point out policy decisions, but also American values. What's wrong with the things that he does.'

Well it was mighty white of him.
“I’m 60 and starting to think about growing up.”
Someone told him to say this. Kerr doesn’t have the real-life skills to stop a meltdown. This is what happens when a man doesn’t have control.
There have been rumors of him stepping aside this postseason (the Warriors were eliminated in the play-in tournament; and with the team in need of a major overhaul Kerr may think it's a good time to move on.). Maybe he is going to enter politic?!
Well, three or four.
Steve Kerr is not yet in the Basketball Hall of Fame, but he is widely considered a guaranteed future inductee as a coach. He has earned 4 NBA championships as head coach of the Golden State Warriors and 5 more as a player, totaling 9 championships, making his induction extremely likely, according to Facebook and YouTube. Focus on basketball Steve.
Who are the others?
Because he is so much smarter and better than the rest of us?
Just like Gregg popovich.
I thought you were referring to players Curry and Thompson - he certainly owes a lot of his success to inheriting a great team. I would add Draymond Green and Kevin Durant and other Warrior players.
Eat a satchel of Richards
Because he is so much smarter and better than the rest of us?
Kerr's father and mother are both academics. His father was murdered by muzzie radicals while he was serving as president of the American University of Beirut. One would think that would make Kerr a bit of a conservative.... but one would be wrong.
And he was the only coach in Warriors history to improve the record three years in a row. But they fired him because they were moving to San Francisco, where a black coach wouldn't fit in.
Durant has pretty much ruined his reputation since he left the Warriors. He continues to put up stats, but he can't help his team. He left for a super team, and has played on a series of super teams. But for all that, none of them was a viable contender. None of them was a good playoff team.
But Popovich was a good coach.
Go screw yourself Steve. This is the same cupid stunt who said Americans have gun rights is just as bad as the CCP murdering tens of millions of people in China.
Especially when he is smarter than you are.
Steve Kerr played with Dennis Rodman, Scotty Pippen, Michael Jordan...3 totally different personalities and styles that he had no problem with.
The same is in politics. Marco Rubio, JD Vance, DJT each have their own “style”. The style does not make the person good or bad.
I thought it had more to do with Mark Jackson being a Christian (and not hiding from his faith), and that certainly wouldn't have been a fit in Sodom and Gomorrah by the Bay.
