Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled on April 27 a new congressional map of the Sunshine State that would add four districts favorable for Republicans. Were the map to become reality, it would apply to the 2026 midterms.
DeSantis told Fox News Digital that Florida has not received fair representation since the 2020 Census and said the stateโs population growth and political shift justify revisiting district boundaries. He noted that Republicans now outnumber Democrats in the state by about 1.5 million voters. He also criticized the current district lines, saying maps drawn with racial considerations are unconstitutional and should not be used. โOur new map for 2026 makes good on my promise to conduct mid-decade redistricting, and it more fairly represents the makeup of Florida today,โ he added.
At present, Floridaโs congressional delegation includes 20 Republicans and seven Democrats, with one Democratic seat vacant following the resignation of former Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.).

That all depends on our people showing up at the polls.
There are only 8 (one is currently vacant) democrat seats in Florida currently, so no, you can’t do 10. Cutting 8 to 4 is good.
The current map is 20-8 republican, the proposed map is 24-4 republican.
Here is the proposed map, it makes Florida look totally red except in a few metropolitan areas.
DeSantis is the best governor in the nation. Doing more good work as he heads out the door.
And I bet if the current government in Cuba falls, Florida will become even more Republican!

Outstanding. Between redistricting and SCOTUS finally getting rid of racial congressional districts, that might well save the midterms.
Florida can’t do 10. Its got 28 seats and 20 of them are already Republican. Making it 24-4 is about as much as Florida can do.
FL cannot draw more than +4R more without extremely ridiculous shapes to districts. It would look like IL districts.
