Thom Tillis Steps Aside and Kevin Warsh Is Now on Track to Lead the Federal Reserve
Red State ^ | 04/26/26 | Joe Cunningham

For months, Kevin Warsh’s path to the Federal Reserve chairmanship ran straight through one Republican senator who refused to budge: Thom Tillis of North Carolina. Tillis had made clear he would block Warsh’s confirmation until the Justice Department dropped what he called an illegitimate criminal probe of current Fed Chair Jerome Powell. On Friday, the DOJ dropped it. On Sunday, Tillis dropped his block.

The Senate Banking Committee is now expected to vote Wednesday on Warsh’s nomination. A floor vote could follow before Powell’s term as chair expires on May 15.

Tillis had made his position clear since January, when U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office served the Federal Reserve with subpoenas targeting Powell over cost overruns in the multibillion-dollar renovation of the Fed’s Washington headquarters.

Tillis called the investigation a “bogus” and “vindictive prosecution” and announced he would not allow any Fed nominees through the Senate Banking Committee while it remained active.

Tillis maintained it was not opposition to Warsh, but opposition to the DOJ investigation.

The investigation itself had already taken serious hits in court. A federal judge quashed the DOJ’s subpoenas earlier this year, describing their purpose as “to harass and pressure Powell to resign.” A prosecutor handling the case acknowledged at a closed-door hearing that the government had found no evidence of a crime.

On Friday, Pirro announced on X that her office was closing the investigation, redirecting scrutiny of the headquarters renovation to the Federal Reserve’s inspector general, who had already launched a probe of the project last July.

I hang my head in shame that I voted for this piece of filthy garbage...but only after Trump gave his support. I figured he would support Trump, hah!

Damn I HATE Rinos.

Good riddance to this puke in January.

Watch him screw NC on his way out. He’ll help the Dem win his seat.

Sick piece of scum.

the controversy over the exorbitant budget over runs by powell’s remodeling of the fed building has gotten a lotta fresh eyes on the possible corruption

Looking forward to Warsh being appointed Fed chairman, but at what cost?

Too late Powell wasted billions in this remodeling project, and will apparently now go unchecked? How is this a good thing?

Tillis maintained it was not opposition to Warsh, but opposition to the DOJ investigation.

We have only a few months to put up with this scumbag, and even if we lose that seat, it won't be much of a loss.

In my opinion, since now the turtle will be gone, the worst of the rinos is the whore from Alaska {who never should have been elected}.

Collins is in real trouble and her opponent is a real nazi, and if he wins, that state is lost.

Don’t feel too badly about it, the system often favors the establishment RINO. My votes for Tillis were to keep Kay Hagan and Cal Cunningham out of the Senate.

I do feel kind of bad he’s not running for re-election. After his abject cowardice following the 2020 presidential election, I told his office that if he failed to fight the fraudulent certification that he would never get my vote again, and I would convince as many fellow voters to vote against him.

His office lackies responded with some mealy-mouthed garbage about state process, “there’s nothing we can do,” etc. Was really looking forward to fulfilling that promise. Guess his internal polls spooked him enough to “retire.”

It's hard to find evidence of a crime when the judge (Boasburg again) quashes subpoenas that could produce potential evidence.

If the tables were turned, and the Trump administration were the ones with a $700 billion cost overrun, it's hard to imagine Boasburg not allowing the subpoena.

Well, Tillis is going to be replaced by Roy Cooper.

Even though Tillis is annoying, at least we'll get his vote 50% of the time.

Not going to matter. Tillis had no chance against Cooper.

The first time Thillis ran for the Senate, I couldn’t vote for Kay Hagan because she was a Democrat. I left the box blank.
The last election I voted for The Worm.
I say good riddance to that pos.

Yes, I fear so. Whatley would be better than Tillis, but Cooper will run as Mr. Moderate and grab a lot of independent voters.

If things look shaky for Cooper on election night, Wake and Mecklenburg counties will deliver the midnight ballots.

Whatley has no chance.

He should be out campaigning right now (he may be doing that) but I'm not seeing it.

Our only chance we had was if Lara Trump decided to run.

So this is a perfect example of how the Dems are able to attract superior candidates for political office.

Or some cushy job from a company that is taking part in the cost overruns.

“He should be out campaigning right now.”

All I’ve seen are mailers for donations :/. Lara would have run an aggressive, message-focused, visible campaign.

A plausible alternate theory :).

Concentrate on Georgia instead. We can win if we can find a great candidate to run against Jon Ossoff.

Did Tillis ever object to any investigation or prosecution by the Biden admin against Trump or any of his family or associates? I dont think so.
