CHEYENNE — Nearly 120 commercial truck drivers have been caught and turned over to federal authorities in the five months the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office has been running its Truck Around and Find Out enforcement, including 46 during its latest operation last week.
Truck Around is not just about commercial drivers or catching illegal immigrants, said Sheriff Brian Kozak about the focused traffic missions, which usually last three days.
“We like to say anyone who’s driving unsafe around trucks or truck drivers who are unsafe,” he said. “We’re looking out for the legal truck drivers who are doing it right.
“We don’t want to just target truck drivers, we want to target unsafe drivers.”
To that end, last week’s operation — titled Truck Around and Find Out: Spring Storm — saw deputies operating in cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to stop all unsafe drivers, not just commercial truckers, Kozak said.
His office is still tabulating the final data on Truck Around, the sheriff said, adding that the agency made “at least 200 stops.”
Along with the 46 illegal drivers caught in this latest operation, 32 were turned over to ICE in late February and 40 in the first organized effort in November, titled Operation Safe Haul.

One of the most notable stops last week is an extreme example of why law enforcement has to be vigilant in motoring Wyoming’s interstates and highways, Kozak said.
“One significant (stop) was a driver who had been revoked out of Colorado 13 different times,” he said. “He was still driving, and an illegal immigrant — and his company was also revoked.”

All named Singh or No Name Given ?
Back in the day I was never wary driving by the big rigs. “Hey, those guys are professionals, they know what they are doing.” Not anymore.
“Back in the day I was never wary driving by the big rigs. “Hey, those guys are professionals, they know what they are doing.” Not anymore.”
Same here. In the past, truck drivers were the most competent and trust-worthy drivers on the road. Now, I deliberately try to stay far away from them.
Another example from the article:
“Deputies also responded to a local business that reported an unwanted semitrailer parked in its lot.
It was taking up five spaces parked the long way across them, and directly in front of a sign that eventually led to the driver being turned over to ICE, Kozak said.
“Absolutely no truck, trailer or semi parking anytime. Vehicle will be towed at violator’s expense,” the sign reads.
Turns out the driver was tired and trying to get some rest.
“He was sleeping, and also not authorized (to drive a commercial truck) and illegal,” Kozak said. “He ended up going to our jail.””
Funny. Probably true.
Some Dem judge will probably let most of them off. Got to protect that Dem voter base don’t you know.
He was probably rushing to get to his truck driver school teaching job.
Sometimes I’ll see the semis with a driving school ad across the sides and wonder if they’re honor students or delinquents at the wheel.
“All named Singh or No Name Given ?”
I assume so since no names were given.
Every state, or at least every GOP controlled state, should be doing these driver checks. It would reduce the number of accidents on our roads and definitely save lives. Not to mention provide jobs for American citizens.
RE: Sheriff Brian Kozak
So the truckers could call him Kozak the Kojak with a Kodak on the way to a choke and puke.
Start confiscation of the trucks and trailers for auction.
THAT will straighten up the companies using illegals.
.
Same here. I travelled I-10 extensively and saw truckers do the most annoying and dangerous things with plenty of crashes.
I wonder how many are “owner-operated” and just contracted out...
“All named Singh or No Name Given ?”
Guarantee there are a lot of ‘Chezes in there too.
“Start confiscation of the trucks and trailers for auction.”
And also the contents, granted much of it is near worthless but other loads are not. Perhaps states can pass laws that they can confiscate contents in any load that they want. The shippers aren’t going to like this and perhaps they’ll quit using illegals.
As a shipper in a former life, the company for which I worked selected reliable trucking companies even though it cost us more in freight. Our loads were too valuable to risk games.
That’s why I like Buc-ee’s. No Semis allowed. Semi trailer parking lots aren’t for families anymore. Too many illegals.
Exactly.
If the sheriff were in California he’d be condemned by the democrat candidates for governor for being a racist. “Have you been specifically trained to administer a language- proficiency test? I thought not. You’re racially profiling people who look like me.”
When you hire a trucking company to move your products from one place to the other you do not know who is actually driving the rig.
