The Justice Department on Friday dropped a criminal investigation into the Federal Reserve and its leader, Chair Jerome Powell, regarding a renovation project at the central bank's Washington headquarters.
"This morning the Inspector General for the Federal Reserve has been asked to scrutinize the building costs overruns – in the billions of dollars – that have been borne by taxpayers," said U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro in a post on X.
"Accordingly, I have directed my office to close our investigation as the IG undertakes this inquiry."

Lawfare, lawfare.......
So the swamp can’t go after Powell?
That should assure the Confirmation of the new Fed Chief.
So the swamp can’t go after Powell?
So the swamp will protect Powell
Sure. Waiting on schmuckee or some other assclown start screaming the “lawfare” trope is all.
Cost overruns for the Federal government are just no big deal. It is simply business as usual.
I would imagine that that’s part of the plan.
Agreed.
They needed to add a learing center.
They needed to add a ballroom................
“...as the IG undertakes this inquiry.”
Trump said he could have done that renovation for $25 million not $2.5 billion. Its insane.
This move was long overdue.
Right after ending the war in Ukraine in 24 hours.
Does this make Tillis happy?
Gotta get the rates down. Even though inflation is rising.
This could go wrong really easily.
“Trump said he could have done that renovation for $25 million not $2.5 billion. It’s insane.”
The President’s ballroom project has nearly doubled in cost already and is nowhere near done. Perhaps he is not the best person to complain about cost overruns right now.

the plans expanded to size it for1000 people when original architect replaced, up from 650- then a super-secure roof was decided upon in consideration of today’s world and security needs of world heads-of-state - and DJT has upgraded finishes etc as his private fund-raising allowed. in other words, the funds raised dictate the final product. quite different from gov’t work.
Every overrun has an excuse. The Federal Reserve building overran for the following reasons…
Unforeseen Conditions: Contractors discovered significantly more asbestos, lead contamination, and higher groundwater levels than expected during the renovation of the historic buildings.
Inflation and Material Costs: Rapidly rising costs for materials—specifically structural steel—and labor, particularly during 2021 and 2022, escalated expenses.
Design Changes & Consultations: Changes requested by oversight boards, including the Commission of Fine Arts, led to more expensive design choices,
The Federal Reserve Building overruns generally were unavoidable or regulatory. The Ballroom overruns were basically a matter of choice. Which is worse ????
