Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted the war in Iran has taken the focus away from Russia’s aggression against his country, telling CNN it was a “big risk” to think that efforts to end the fighting in Ukraine can’t restart until the conflict in Iran ends.
Speaking to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour from the presidential office in Kyiv, Zelensky said Wednesday that while technical talks with the United States are still happening, he doesn’t “see the opportunity to meet … until the question, the case of Iran will be closed.”
Zelensky pointed out that it was a “challenge” that the same team of US negotiators – led by US envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner – was leading both the talks about the war in Iran and in Ukraine.
And he said that while he understands the United States is currently focused on its war on Iran, it was important not to forget about Ukraine where fighting continues.
The Ukrainian leader said it was not an option to say that “we will speak about (Ukraine) a little bit later. … Ukraine is not ‘a little bit later.’ Ukraine is already in such a big tragedy, we have to find a way to manage this in a parallel way.”
Zelesnky also told CNN that the war has meant some supplies of key weapons for Ukraine have been derailed – especially anti-ballistic missiles, of which he said Ukraine was not getting enough because of limited production capacity in the US.

Shoulda made a deal when you had the chance, dumbass.
Yep.
The Ukrainians seem to be doing rather well at holding the Russians back and in some cases forcing them back.
This is a good time to craft a Ukraine/RF peace deal.
Oh my, your middle of the week afternoon laugh.
< doc holliday > Oh. Volodymyr, I apologize; I forgot you were there. You may go now. </ doc holliday >
I doubt anyone thought this war would go on this long. This is probably going to destroy any future for the peoples of these two countries for at least the next 20-30 years.
Zelensky feels he’s more important than the United States and the rest of the world.
Christiane Amanpour, another butt-ugly, oxygen thief I despise.
Russians have opened a Northern Front and continue to move forward on All Fronts.
There is some comic relief in the video link. Z man has labeled what's left of the Donetsk Region as “DonnyLand.” In a mock to Trump.
What a card. ;)

Zlenesky has wasted months of bad faith negotiations with the US negotiating team with extended talks, after which he goes public with Ukrainian terms that are ridiculous and totally non starters
The US has more important things to do than have their time wasted by Zelensky who seems to be more interested in wasting time and embarrassing the Trump team to hurt Trump approval ratings than ending the conflict.
The next visit to Zelensky from the US is probably going to be an FBI team wanting to discuss Zlensly's plan to take 500 million dollars of US green energy aid and launder the into campaign funds for the Biden 2024 presidential campaign
Little zeke goes running to CNN as usual.
Someone needs attention.
He's not the only foreign leader who feels that way.
Now Iran is doing the same thing.
I don't like it.
Ukrainians never asked for a deal. Only Trump was pushing that like crazy.
Nevertheless, they have accepted roughly ALL of Trumps proposed ceasefire deals.
Only RUSSIA has refused them all - mocking Trump in the process - just like the Iranians are trying to do right now.
Iran-Russia-North Korea is an alliance - they NEVER negotiate on anything.
When Trump said he succeeded to make a deal with Iran.. it’s was more like a deal with himself. Iran never accepted anything what Trump boasted about.
Therefore the wars must continue.
Russian economy is now in true danger, bank-crisis, exploding oil-refineries all over the place… Ukraine is now starting to win, it has many new cards - exporting its super efficient anti-drone technology to many of Arab states as well now - it has the time on its side. Ukraine’s new alliances with Saudi, Quatar, Kuwait will help it get a lot of financing to crush the FSB-Russia-commies.
“LOL!! Russians have opened a Northern Front and continue to move forward on All Fronts.”
Was that in your Putin email?
Key Takeaways
Russian Chief of the General Staff Army General Valery Gerasimov continues to make greatly exaggerated claims of Russian advances amidst Russian forces’ poor performance in their ongoing Spring-Summer 2026 offensive.
Even the most generous interpretations of other Russian sources do not support Gerasimov’s claims.
Gerasimov is likely attempting to obscure Russia’s disappointing lack of progress thus far in its Spring-Summer 2026 offensive.
The Kremlin continues its efforts to militarize Russian society and appoint loyal veterans to positions of authority ahead of Russia’s State Duma elections in September 2026.
Ukrainian long-range drone strikes continue to have significant impacts on Russian oil production.
Ukrainian forces recently advanced in the Kupyansk direction and the Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka tactical area.
Ukrainian forces continued their long-range strike campaign against Russian oil infrastructure and military assets. Russia launched two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 143 drones against Ukraine overnight.
It is true that the war in Iran has diverted a lot Air Defense missile supply that might have otherwise been available for Ukraine (and badly needed there), and provided Russia a short term financial reprieve for its oil exports.
But the war in Iran has also destroyed Shaheed drone production facilities that have long supplied Russia. If a pro-Western regime takes control of Iran, then sanctions will likely be lifted on Iran’s oil, allowing displacement of Russian oil exports - full displacement.
So short term pain, for potentially huge Strategic gain.
