Updated April 21, 2026, 9:54 a.m. ET WASHINGTON — President Trump has rejected the idea of letting talks with Iran keep going if they run past tomorrow’s cease-fire expiration without a deal in place.
“Well, I don’t want to do that. We don’t have that much time,” Trump told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” Tuesday morning when asked about the idea.
“They have to negotiate. And, you know, the one thing I’ll say is this: Iran can get themselves at a very good footing. If they make a deal, they can make themselves into a strong nation again, a wonderful nation again,” the president continued.
“They’re led by some very, very, unfortunately tough people. And I don’t mean tough in a good way. I think it’s very negative for the country.”
Later, Trump clarified that if the cease-fire ends without an agreement, he is prepared to resume attacking the Islamic Republic.
“I expect to be bombing because I think that’s a better attitude to go in with,” he said

Don’t telegraph. It gives them time to hide behind all the women and children.
Everyone should immediately leave the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi, and Kuwait. Sailors on all ships in the Persian Gulf must also prepare to evacuate their ships. This is especially urgent for ships near the Strait of Hormuz, which will be destroyed first. Time is running out.
It seems clear that Iran internally is very highly divided.
Some of the outward-facing diplomatic groups, and non-ideological government bureaucrats are in favor of negotiations, while the highly ideological, and special-status IRGC, who also control the instruments of internal repression, have hardened its position, probably knowing they will likely lose power in the future.
Think Japan on August 6, 1945.
It sounds like Mohammad Maranda is planning a party.
This is what he does. Remember the bombing of all plants and bridges...that never happened. So he says that a couple times...they get tired of responding with human shields....then wammo.
Or he watches how long it takes them to get human shields and how they organizes them. Then we take out the leaders doing that crap.

Thank God that Trump has such a wise advisor as you! Don’t you realize you only know about 5% of what’s actually going on behind the scenes?
Perhaps a weak attempt at bluster to improve bargains position?
+1
We should have taken a week or two to get out in front of the whole terrorist use of innocent bodies on military targets.
The world should be in unison with us about killing every single irgc leader and member for that single war crime.
Instead they talk about creating a new war crime against us if Trump does bomb those targets.
I hate this. The entire world should be shoulder to shoulder with us but instead they choose cheap gasoline.
The greatest generation isn’t here.
Fist shaking from the bomb shelter with holes in it
Good summation.
I totally concur.
Certainly hope China didn’t fly in nukes the other day.
They know it’s coming bro.
Looking forward to a terrific light and fireworks show
popcorn time!
No matter what Iran does, it will end badly now if it’s not basically a surrender. Trump has been VERY consistent in offering the carrot before the stick. The delay of ‘peace’ talks was just what I predicted. I said that Iran would try to
Get as close to 60 days so the Iranian allies in the United States, also known as democrats, would try to evoke the war powers act. Iran thinks it can make it for a few weeks. They have no idea what is coming. They should have made a deal.
Considering all the disinformation floating around the actual percentage is probably negative.
