Virginia Republicans turning out to vote on redistricting at higher rate than in 2025

The early vote in Virginia’s special election on redistricting has turned out more GOP voters than the 2025 gubernatorial election did, as Democrats look to redraw the state’s map with a 10-to-1 blue district margin.

Virginia is just one day out from its referendum on whether or not to allow the blue state legislature to redraw the state’s congressional map in favor of Democrats, and election forecasters are zeroing in on the state’s early voting numbers. The final early vote tally in Virginia is about 3% more red than the early vote turnout in 2025, according to election forecaster State Navigate.

On Tuesday, Virginians will vote either “yes” or “no” on state Democrats’ mid-decade redistricting that would change the state’s congressional map to favor Democrats 10-to-1, as opposed to their current 6-to-5 ratio.

“Yes has a slight edge in the polls and a much bigger $ edge,” Decision Desk HQ said in a statement. “But No has a real shot at winning as the early vote is less pro-Democratic than it was last November.”

According to data from the Virginia Public Access Project, the two districts with higher early voter turnouts in this election than in 2025 are Virginia’s 6th and 9th congressional districts, each represented by GOP Reps. Ben Cline (R-VA) and Morgan Griffith (R-VA).

The election has many early voters across the board; however, Democrats are also showing up to the polls looking to respond to President Donald Trump‘s redistricting efforts in red states such as Texas.

According to VPAP, as of Sunday, over 1.3 million voters cast early ballots in the redistricting referendum, compared to the over 1.4 million early votes in 2025, a resounding early turnout for a special election.

It needs to be at a *much* higher rate...as they are outnumbered...

I hope the talk radio circuit is in full gear on this and not just passively mentioning it as just a news item to cover “and we’ll see how it turns out...it’ll be interesting to see” as though those listening are just observers and can’t have an impact.

My daughter had a guy at her door telling her to vote yes cause Trump, and Texas. She said she doesn’t care about Texas but does care about Virginia and their plan will destroy any hope of fairness in the state. She had him so wrapped up in circles since she was skipping his talking points he gave up and walked away.

Virginians: Save your state. Do your DUTY and vote NO.

Don’t be such a downer. Doesn’t everybody in Southside Virginia want to be represented by someone from Fairfax County or Norfolk-Newport News?

For those who want the filibuster dead may this be a lesson to you. This is what the Repuke party will always do. They went with a half measure. They got it down in Texas and couldn’t get anything done anywhere else. The Democrats then got it done everywhere at full power. This is what will happen with the Filibuster. The Republicans (who have no real platform) MIGHT pass one thing and the Democrats will go ahead and remake the entire country.

When Republicans Get Out And Vote, Republicans win!

Can you hear me, Virginia Republicans! Had 449,586 more of you voted in 2025, like you did in 2024, you would not have this mess!

Newt Gingrich said about 6 months ago, the republicans will not eliminate the filibuster because the Senate republicans do not want to enact Trump’s agenda. Newt has talked with them.

Newt said they know the democrats will eliminate the filibuster at the earliest opportunity when they take control of the senate and the republicans don’t care. They don’t like Trump and they don’t like his agenda.

The current senate is the most pathetic legislative body I have ever seen. They don’t even want to pass the Save America Act.

Agreed. I wasn’t too excited about Youngkin...the ultimate milquetoast. I understood though...any more of a firebrand, the R would have lost in VA.

Youngkin did nothing to build up the party and recruit potential candidates. He did raise some moderate amount of money, but to what end?

The RNC has done nothing to help in the referendum - one that can cost the party 4 seats in just a few months. Not one cent nor logistical help.

He was the perfect candidate in 2021. Also, it helped that Trump was not in the White House (so people in VA did not have a reason to vote against him).
