In one of the most unfortunate moral and strategic inversions in recent times, Democrats today seem to believe what is good for our national security is bad for the Democratic Party.
Republicans have generally supported Democratic presidents in wartime: Kosovo 1999, Libya 2011, Yemen 2024 — all commenced without congressional authorization.
Democrats have done mostly the same for Republican presidents: Iraq 1991 and 2003, Afghanistan 2001.
But with Donald Trump and Iran, things are different: Democrats are in uniform, rageful opposition.
They hector the president daily even amid combat operations, much to the delight of the Iranian mullahs, who avidly consume US media and thrive on US division.
Given the nature of the nuclear threat, Democrats’ arguments against the war seem largely second-order: the war lacks legal authorization and clear purpose; the strikes are spiking oil prices and inflation.
Liberal darling and New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman seemed to say the silent part out loud about the liberal mindset: Though he doesn’t like the Iranian regime, he admitted, he doesn’t want to see Trump or Bibi Netanyahu getting credit for what would be a historic win for global peace.
This sounds like Trump Derangement Syndrome, but I think something far deeper is at play.
Democrats need Trump to fail in Iran — because if he succeeds, Democrats are exposed as unserious people with an unserious worldview and no coherent plan on national security that makes sense in the real world.
For the last decade, the Democratic Party has been a party of appeasement and weakness in the face of Mideast terrorists.
Barack Obama backed off his red-line threat in Syria in 2012. Joe Biden fled Afghanistan in a disastrous pullout in 2021.
During their presidencies, both seemed to believe diplomacy was the only answer to every problem, even when it was clear diplomacy was...

Weird. I heard we couldn’t even bring it to a tie with the erstwhile irgc. 😳 Right? Hello? Bueller.
Defeat Trump, at all costs, even of American & Israeli lives.
Ask Obama and ValJar why the demoncrats are on Iran’s side against America.
Like Tom Friedman, anti Trump TDS is so great that outweighs any values or logic.
Because we have an entire major political party that absolutely despises the country they live in. Would be better if they all killed themselves and put us out of their misery.
To take your mind off the rapist Swalwell?
“..Would be better if they all killed themselves and put us out of their misery....”
Absolutely. THAT would make America a much better place, and would ensure greatness again. The Communist Party USA! is a domestic terrorist organization.
Their hatred of Donald Trump is so deep that they would rather lose a war than give him credit for winning. If he says I love America, they will say they hate America.
DemocRATs are a moral inversion.
“Why”? Seriously?
Someone should inform Julian the name of that party is “democrat”, not democratic.
I had a dream (I can dream too).
Iran becomes free of the evil leaders, with free elections and becomes rich- ALL with Trump’s success. Then primary all of the Libs and others, showing all of the comments from these losers.
Yup
If Joe Biden were running the op, it would be a grand success.
Middle school mean girls on a global scale.
“Democrats need Trump to fail in Iran — because if he succeeds, Democrats are exposed as unserious people with an unserious worldview and no coherent plan on national security that makes sense in the real world. “
If Trump succeeds, he will have accomplished what not even Reagan could.
It should be transparent to even a 12-year-old what the Democrats are doing.
For me, if the Republicans acted this way, and they thankfully generally do NOT play opposition political games with national security matters, it would be a huge turn off.
What some here in the FR do not realize, is that this is exactly the reason why Trump had to use his own folks and bring in Witkoff and Kushner. He cannot depend on a highly partisan / politicized and frankly somewhat inefficient and even inept government bureaucracy to handle these negotiations.
In many cases, you don’t even know who is aligned with or against you. These folks lack the professionalism to be objective and act in the nation’s best interest.
Does anyone today “really” believe Fauchi acted in this nation’s best interest, or that it was entirely innocent? What about Comey and Russian collusion while not seeing anything serious with HRCs server nor Hunters laptop? People seem to forget these are political appointees and you tend to inherit many of these guys from the last administration, even many of the senior executive schedules are total political hack jobs since they are hand-picked by the appointees. Think about this, you had 8 years of Obama who was aggressive about politicizing the bureaucracy, and then 4 years of Biden who like Obama had no hesitation sticking the DOJ on pro-life activists and organizations etc.
Bkmk
Hector? I don't think what they do is bullying the President. He's too strong for that. I think the term to use is heckle: "To try to embarrass and annoy (someone speaking or performing in public) by questions, gibes, or objections". Instead of trying to accomplish something productive for the American people, they act like the spoiled brats they are and do whatever they can to demean what Trump does. Talk about a waste of taxpayer money...
