Watch - Parachutist crashes into the scoreboard during the Virginia Tech game
Awesome part at 48 second mark
Saw something similar on Sicily drop zone at Ft. Bragg in 1979. Some poor PFC rookie jumper was running with the wind on his first jump out of jump school. He forgot that you have to turn into the wind 200 feet before you land, and hit the ambulance at about 15 mph. Messed him up pretty good, but at least the medics were right there. That’s back when we were still jumping MC1-1B steerable chutes.
It would be nice to ask if the parachutist is OK, I guess...
After that, what do you do for an encore?
That stunt is always going to drag the flag on the ground if you land right, pretty as it looks descending and growing larger.
When I was in the 82nd 1971 thru 73 jumping T-10’s you landed what ever way the wind blew. Seemed like it was more often than not backward. The three point landing was usually heels, butt, head.
You hang around for the rest of the game?
He was “Home”
Gargle peanut butter....
It looked to me that he was turned into the wind, look at the flag. As he passed over the jumbotron it looks like he lost lift and or caught a downdraft that collapsed the chute. He should have gave up and turned back to run with it to clear the stadium. 18th Abn Corp 78-80.
Looks like His parachute failed and he was fortunate it caught onto the Jumbotron. Otherwise…
