The Republican-led Senate on Wednesday rejected the latest Democratic attempt to halt President Donald Trump’s war in Iran, turning aside a resolution that would require the U.S. to withdraw forces from the conflict until Congress authorizes further action.
The 47-52 vote was the fourth time this year that the Senate has voted to cede its war powers to the president in a conflict that Democrats say is illegal and unjustified.
Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman was the only Democrat to vote against it. Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky voted with Democrats.
Republicans say they will keep faith in Trump’s wartime leadership, for now, citing Iran’s nuclear capabilities, the potential for ongoing talks and the high stakes of withdrawal.
Still, GOP lawmakers are anxious for the conflict to end, and some are eyeing future votes that could become an important test for the president if the war drags on. And the outcome of a war powers vote in the House, expected this week, is uncertain.
Under the War Powers Act of 1973, Congress must declare war or authorize use of force within 60 days of its start — a deadline that will arrive at the end of this month. The law provides for a potential 30-day extension of that deadline, but lawmakers have made clear that they want the administration to soon lay out a plan for the end of the conflict.

Oddly I am glad Fetterman won the election as a Democrat. His beliefs are left of center but not insanely left of center. He does love our nation as does not his insane left wingers in the Senate and House. He has become what Joe Lieberman was which was an honorable democrat patriot that left the democrat party and became Independent.
Someone said maybe the Dems will come to their senses and see they don’t have to all be extreme socialist Trump haters.
So, now there is ONE GUY, Fetterman who is sometimes okay. Usually votes Dem on bills. One guy.
He’s like the talk radio host in Michigan said. “They tell me don’t keep saying the whole university and college system is filled to overflowing with woke, leftist indoctrination faculty and presidents. There’s Hillsdale College that isn’t. Then I say to them, yes, ONLY Hillsdale College. Find another one. Go ahead.”
Why does Thune let this come up for a vote?
agreed, Fetterman and Lieberman patriots both...the kind of D’s that any decent American could vote for (at least applaud)....
watching DNC Congresscritters voting in lockstep like good little communist apparachniks is just downright sickening

We used to call them “Scoop Jackson Democrats”

That is funny. Just before I refreshed this thread and saw your post I was thinking I’d like to have that quote on a bumper sticker.
i have thought this war was a mistake from the the very start.
But given that, trying to undercut Trump now would guarantee the worst possible outcome. It is still possible to get something good out of all this, but not if the Dems pull the plug.
Not surprising the Dems would try to do it (or Rand Paul).
FDR, JFK and LBJ would not be welcome today in the extreme lefty Democrat Party of today!
It is "risky."
Actually, more politically risky than militarily risky.
It is aggravating for me to see America's foreign policies dictated more by "optics" than by pragmatism.
(President Trump is not to fault for that!)
Regards,
I don’t recall that Lieberman enriched himself while in office, and I doubt if Fetterman is either. Big difference to what we have now. Greed must be the worst sin of all...it can lead to all the others.
It’s STRATEGICALLY risky.
The potential downside of having a successful decapitation, and the Regime remains to do its worst, was absolutely huge.
And we are nearly there. That’s why this was a mistake, even if they thought they had 90% chance of success.
We have $200+ oil (delivered) in SriLanka and Singapore. If they destroy the export facilities, that’s is going to be for everyone. And an oil shock many times the size of 1973.

No, we simply have to understand that, in the case of Teheran, the term "decapitation" might have to be redefined as "sawing-off at the ankles."
If we have to eliminate the first-tier mullahs, the second-tier IRGC leaders, the third-tier commanders, all the way down to the nth-tier fruit stand vendors, then so be it!
Regards,
If they knew now it would go like this, they wouldn’t have done it.
Disagree, if they knew now what they know now theu would have done things differently, but that is how wars are won and as is said battle plans are only valid till the first shots are fired
