The Washington State Attorney General’s Office staff has billed more than 34,000 hours working on lawsuits filed against the Trump Administration since November 2024, according to records obtained by The Center Square. More than two thirds of those hours billed within a six-month period.
The 34,000 hours represents a combined 1,416 days or 3.9 years of billable work.
“That's a significant amount of time even for an agency with 800 lawyers,” Citizen Action Defense Fund Executive Director Jackson Maynard told The Center Square. “For comparison a lot of private law firms have billable requirements for lawyers in the range of 2000-2400 per year. That's equivalent to 100 lawyers working full time on those cases.”
However, according to AGO Deputy Communications Director Mike Faulk, there are 30 attorneys handling the litigation.

According to the WA AGO lawsuit tracker, AG Nick Brown has filed or joined 58 federal lawsuits against the current Trump administration, with Brown leading or co-leading 22 of them. The lawsuits concern $15 billion in disputed federal funding and policies.

That's a lot of billable hours for TDS.
WA AGO billed more than 34,000 hours of giving aid and comfort to the domestic and foreign enemies of the United States.
So, can the AGOs in Commiefornia and Muslimsota top that?!?
17 man years.
Would like to see the billable hours during Obama and Biden (if they add up to more than zero).
Yeah, I want to know how much tax money CA AG Bonta has wasted
And they still got nuthin'. Must be frustrating.
Wonder how many of those people could be cut and replaced with AI?
I was summoned for jury duty about two years ago.
My county is the county of record for the State of Washington. If you have a case against the State or vice versa, it is heard in Thurston County.
When the judge asked the prospective jurors if they could serve with out bias on the case the State brought against the single defendant, I said “Emphatically NO!”
Asked why, I said 1) the case is brought by the 800 lawyers of the AG’s office against one man on a Labor and Industries (”L&I”) violation. Hardly fair, 2)I looked up your background, your Honor. You used to work for AG Ferguson and handled L&I cases. Questionable especially considering you were appointed by the Governor and not yet elected. and 3) the way the AG’s office and L&I went after small businesses during the Covid shut down has made me distrust the both offices.
I was dismissed from jury duty.
LOL!!
Yeah! The whole jury pool heard that scathing critique.
That’s a lot of wasted taxpayer money. Did you write your check today? I did
WOW. Were you seeking to be dismissed from jury duty to avoid their game of charades, or were you just being sincerely honest.
I’m not trying to put you on the spot personally, but I’m in a similar situation on the east coast (Fairfax County, VA), which has a rogue soft-on-crime rogue DA.
Sickos run my home state - USSR-WA. Ferguson and Brown are corrupt and incorrigible. Disgusting human beings along with those who vote them into office.
At 40 hours per government week, X 52 weeks in year, no federal nor state holidays, no vacations and no medical or dental appointments. 2080 hours per year per lawyer.
Yeah. No hate-filled corruption in that JustUs Dept. None at all.
I was being honest. At my age (75), I don't need to play footsie with disreputable people to "get along".
Gotta do a lot of politically acceptable billing in order to skim money, laundering it back to the jokers approving the payments.
