Nolte — Pope Fail: Trump’s Approval Rating with Church-Going Catholics Is 58 Percent
Breitbart ^ | 14 Apr 2026 | John Nolte

Pope Leo XIV’s relentless and morally confused attacks on the Orange Bad Man have failed to damage the president’s standing with church-going Catholics, who give Trump a 58 percent job approval rating.

Oh, and 50 percent of Catholics who actually go to church also approve of Trump taking military action against a suicidal terrorist regime in Iran seeking nuclear weapons.

While it’s true Trump has lost support amongst the broad group of those who identify as Catholic, those who actually practice the faith (which means attending church) still support the president by a 58 to 42 percent margin.

That number flips to 42 percent approve, and 58 percent disapprove among those Catholics who never or rarely attend Mass.

Is the Podcaster Pope making the same mistake disgraced former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy did with Star Wars?

It might seem an odd comparison, but hear me out…

In pursuit of women and gays, Kennedy feminized and queered Star Wars. You see, Kennedy stupidly and arrogantly believed that by pandering to women and gays, she would expand the fanbase. Instead, she lost the Star Wars loyalists in such large numbers that 1) any added women and gay fans couldn’t come close to making up the difference, and 2) Kennedy ended up resigning in disgrace.

Kennedy’s arrogance was in the belief that loyal Star Wars fans were so mindless they would keep showing up no matter how much she insulted them and turned the franchise they’d loved for decades into something unrecognizable.

Maybe Pope Leo believes he can do what Kennedy couldn’t? Leo’s baseless, knee-jerk, and morally confused attacks on Trump make me wonder if his plan is to expand the Catholic Church “fanbase” with Trump haters under the mistaken belief that the already loyal Catholic fanbase, those who support Trump and actually show up every week,

Pope Leo’s behavior is equally indefensible. He hides behind the good intentions of peace and understanding blah, blah, blah… But all I see is a mindless partisan meddling in domestic politics, whereas he should be out saving souls. He’s become divisive and looks like Barack Obama’s puppet by way of David Axelrod.

Both failed in what should’ve been their primary duties. Kennedy’s job was to deliver great Star Wars movies. Pope Leo’s job is to appeal to all people as a means to save their souls. Instead, the Podcaster Pope is alienating practicing Catholics.

CBS Polling window of April 8-10, many days before the most recent snafu. Nolte “forgot” to mention that.

Utterly misleading.

Read the date on the underlying CBS poll. It was taken April 8-10, BEFORE the very public spat.

Meanwhile, the Republican ticket won 55% of the Catholic vote in 2024. Even before the events of the past few days, the poll you cite shows a majority of Catholics disapproving President Trump. This is in line with the Fox poll of March 20-23, which gave his approval at 52%-48% negative with Catholics. And within the split, the disapproval sentiment was stronger:

Strongly approve........23%
Somewhat approve........25%

Strongly disapprove.....40%
Somewhat disapprove.....12%

Since Pope Leo has entered the political realm, shouldn’t he tell us if he voted for Obama, Durbin, Pritkker, Johnson and the other pro abortion, hedonistic Democrats in Illinois? Be honest with the people.

Wrong!

If you are going to post something on FreeRepublic, make sure it is factual!

Speaking with reporters that day, Leo condemned Trump’s statement without singling out the president by name. He characterized the threat as “truly unacceptable,” and called on “all people” to “reject war, especially a war which many people have said is an unjust war.”

His words put him in direct tension with senior American officials who have framed the war in explicitly religious terms. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has repeatedly invoked God in connection with the U.S. military campaign, likening the rescue of a downed American pilot to the resurrection, and asking the American people to pray “every day, on bended knee” for a military victory in Iran “in the name of Jesus Christ.” On Wednesday, Hegseth said “tens of thousands of sorties, refuelings and strikes [have been] carried out under the protection of divine providence.”

In his Palm Sunday homily on March 29, Leo rejected such invocations. God “does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them,” Leo said, quoting from Isaiah 1:15: “Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood.”

So the Pope doesn’t like the way President Trump is negotiating to remove the Iranian regime.

Fine. Then the Pope - he represents the Vatican which is a sovereign, independent state - can go to Iran and negotiate a deal to peacefully resolve all the issues.

But the Pope hasn’t done that yet. In fact, I’m not sure what risks the Pope and his country have taken in my lifetime to advance world peace.

In WWII the Vatican maintained its neutrality; it sat on the sidelines with evil camped at its door.

Do you think that the homily got 10% of the attention that President Trump’s Truth Social (and follow-up comments) did?

You’re living on a different planet.

In American political history, there has never been so much as a veiled attack on the pontiff by a president.

(The closest was when Nixon’s Agriculture Secretary, Earl Butz, defended birth control by saying of Paul VI, “He no playa the game, he no maka the rules.”)

Doubling down on the lying, especially when it had been proven, is not a good thing on FreeRepublic!

If the Church wants to get involved in politics, then tax them as a political organization.

Dems’ 2028 strategy: a straight, white, Christian man.
The demoncrat upper echelon will run the fake pope for president in 2028.
That is how stupid they think Christians are.
That’s why Leo attacked Trump.
