Fear in the Classroom? Conservative Students Say They're Being Silenced
R News ^ | 4/9/25 | Tom Lemons

A growing national debate over politics in the classroom is now taking center stage in Florida, as parents, educators, and lawmakers wrestle with a question that has become increasingly difficult to ignore: Are personal political beliefs affecting students in the classroom?

National data has consistently shown that public school teachers tend to lean left politically, with a majority identifying with or supporting the Democratic Party. While that alone does not indicate bias in the classroom, it has raised concerns among many parents-particularly those aligned with the political movement surrounding Donald Trump-that the current political climate may be influencing how, and what, students are taught.

Those concerns have only intensified in recent years, as political rhetoric nationwide has grown sharper. Critics point to repeated comparisons of Trump to authoritarian figures, along with broader claims labeling him a fascist or racist, as evidence of a deeply polarized environment. For many parents, the question becomes less about whether teachers hold political opinions and more about whether those views are being kept out of the classroom.

Most of my teachers were liberal leaning but they encouraged us young skulls full of mush to keep up with current events, listen to ALL points of view, engage in debates respectfully and above all to THINK FOR OURSELVES.
On a related note I heard Dan Bongino this morning warn that cancel culture isn't dead. It's just waiting for the opportunity to once again rear it's ugly head. To add to Thomas Jefferson's immortal quote, like protecting freedom we must be eternally vigilant against this malignancy as well.

In this day and age, yes, it absolutely does. There are NO good democrats. All democrats are violently radicalized.

Many students of a conservative persuasion censor themselves. They’ve seen how vindictive their liberal teachers and professors can be, so they tow the leftwing line rather than rock the boat. Similarly, I would never put a bumper sticker on my car that suggested a conservative outlook lest a lefty smash a window or rip off the rearview mirror.

More Nuns needed, back in the day they would prophetically ‘preach Heven to you and beat the hell out of you’.

“In this day and age, yes, it absolutely does.”

It certainly does if the majority or white, male, or Christian.

Growing national debate? This has been going on since 2016. Teachers have been calling Trump a fascist dictator since he took office the first time. And they called Bush a fascist dictator when he took office. No, sorry. They called him a Confederate initially (remember that?) but then called him a fascist dictator once the wars revved up. What has changed is that teachers are more willing to post on social media about it. And thank God they are stupid enough to do so and let everyone know.

My kids did. They had to work twice as hard to remember what the teacher/text lied about so they could pass the tests but also remembered the true facts to live by.

I first heard about this back in ‘98 at the University of Minnesota.
A conservative professor told me about it.
She was denied tenure as the U found out she was conservative.

During a discussion with my 12-year-old granddaughter, she got visibly agitated when I referred to illegal aliens needing to be arrested. She yelled at me “No one is illegal!”. I asked where she got that nonsense and said her teachers said so. I told her the truth, that they’re breaking the law sneaking in so they are indeed illegal aliens. That her teachers are biased and wrongly teaching her. It is going to take time to deprogram her, if anyone can.

Agree with your post and the above ones.

The deadly aspect is that conservatives are simply dismissed. They are not even considered human beings with an opinion.

I had this experience as early as 50 years ago, competing with lib friends who were leaning toward hipster, maybe Ivy, schools. We were all going to do medicine, engineering, law, etc.

Not bragging at all, but I beat many libs in all the categories: Grades, standardized exams, etc. Went to the state school. They spent their parents' retirements going into hock to pay for these privates or Ivys.

By the time we parted company in Spring of senior year they had completed dismissing me as a real person.

Any discussion of politics, especially about Nixon and Viet Nam, they were expert and I was just invisible, worse than an animal in the validity of my claims.

Of course 50 years on, I am right, I was right then, and Watergate was the biggest Nothingburger of all, compared with all the treasonous stuff Rats did, do, and will do. Vietnam? The fix for that was to never get involved, or if you did, get involved with Ho Chi Minh during WW2, instead of blowing him off the way FDR and Truman did. Think of how great it would have been to have a capitalist Vietnam during the Cold War ! AND poor Nixon, he had to mop up after the worthless Rat Presidents LBJ and JFK got us in up to our nostrils and made defeat inevitable. Somehow Rats still blame Nixon for the whole fiasco.

The one constant in all this is that anyone who is conservative is lower than sub-human to a liberal. We are not even worth the effort it takes to ignore us. And that is an unbelievably effective and demoralizing strategy which the Communists cultivate all the time.

It is worth thinking about: How do they do it, when they themselves are so wrong and are always so dumb and lackluster? How do they lie and never break a grin? How can they talk their garbage in the utter light of being disproven, in real time? They don't even miss a step, when they are being embarrassed by the facts and the truth. It is plainly preternatural.

This has been going on since 2016.

Since 1965. The Vice Principal of the Catholic prep school I attended believed in F-D-R, J-F-K, L-B-J and G-O-D, in that order. I caught hell for reading Atlas Shrugged and working for the Goldwater campaign. I was denied being my school's delegate at the American Legion Boys' State that year due to my politics. Only the intervention of the lay teachers permitted to go.

Leftist teachers should live in more fear than their conservative students. Conservative parents may need to become more proactive in protecting their children.

I would have to agree with vikingd00d. Once I heard declared that Democrats were predatory and evil. I wrote up a 15,000 essay that does prove the statement. In a public school the only information you can trust is the time on a wall clock

” Dan Bongino this morning warn that cancel culture isn’t dead”

Not quite. With democrats liberals commies (all the same) they hold focus groups to find a new BS name for the policy. I remember when the democrats hires George Lackoff (Rhymes with (HT Rush)) to rename all their garbage policy positions.
